The reason I am changing it is because it keeps breaking down and
if I replace it with radiators and combu i will save space from the actual warm air unit in the kitchen and the tanks upstairs.

Also funny my electric water tank broke down today and I need to sort this out as weel. Any idea as to if I need a plumber or an electrician?

They are not the smallest of units!!
Have you had a quote to replace the whole unit ? Its still saves money on rads and all that pipe work.
  • Hi,

Just to give you an idea, BG quoted my MIL £4800 odd to install a new system in a small two bedroom bungalow. Local recommended plumber did a really nice job for £2350 odd. The job took a week and the plumber earned about £1k in wages the rest was for parts.

Can you ask your friends or co-workers if they can recommend anyone?

Always get at least three like for like quotes.

Pay for work in stages. You may need to pay for the boiler, pipes and radiators when they are delivered to you.

Ensure they have and you see a gas safe certificate before they get the touch anything!!!

Try Swale Heating (they should cover East London) - we came across this company about 18 years ago - we went to BG for a new replacement back boiler and they sub contracted the work to Swale Heating. They did an excellant job and left everything neat and tidy.

About 14 years ago, we moved to our current house which had storage radiators, we went directly to Swale and had them update the system (at a much cheaper price than BG). Last month as we are soon having a new kitchen, we had them fit a new combi boiler in a new position, remove all the old system and fit thermostatic valves to all rads. A very neat job and we are more than happy.
