                    Hi,
BG gave me a price of £5300 today to changed my old warm airm unit to a central system combi.
Price is for a cmbi worcester boiler 28i 2 double radiators (living room and lounge) 2 single for the 2 bedrooms and one fr the bathroom.
They will also take away the old system and water tanks and all pipes will be in copper not plastic. In the price they also have included a Hydroflow HS38 scale reducer - £137.49 and 22mm magnetic system filter -£223
Prices are inclusive of VAT. I am located in East London
I would appreciate any feedback on the price quoted

Seems quite expensive but I'm not an expert. Always best to get at least two or three quotes. Have you asked a local registered gas installer to give you a quote? My partner and I got a recent quote from Scottish and Southern Electric and it was actually quite reasonable (compared to british gas!)
I'm sure someone will be along soon enough to advise more specifically on the works that are going to be carried out.0 -
a local company will probably do the same job for approx half that price.Get some gorm.0

I agree it looks too exp to me as well. The problem is that I have no idea when it comes to house work and I am afraid that if I go to someone outside BG he might be a cowboy0 -

I would like to offer some advice, but as a non-BG RGI cowboy I am afraid that you might have been irrevocably brainwashed by alarmist adverts.
Phew, the power that cartoons and Ricky Tomlinson have on some people is frightening.
Remember, your house may explode if BG don't sell you a rebadged boiler and then subcontract the job of installing it out to someone else.0 -
            Dear BaldPlumber,
Was I irrevocably brainwashed by alarmist adverts as you put it I wouldn't been asking for an advise and I would have already signed with BG.

I'm in Brentwood, Essex. Just had British Gas out to quote for complete central heating system (no system in house at mo) - 3 bed semi - BG quoted me TODAY £7,500................... No chance - damn sure I can get this done cheaper & as good.
OP - If your a member of Which, try their which local - recommended traders by other Which members. Fortunately for me I do have a gas engineer that I've used before & am waiting for him to do home visit to quote. Thought I'd get a quote from BG - nasty shock0 -

Why are you changing from warm air??0 -
Why are you changing from warm air??
That was my reaction too. Then I remembered how negative some companies (in the south) can be about warm air heating.
Do you have a Johnson Starley unit? If so, may I suggest contacting them direct. I'm pretty sure you can replace your existing unit through JS for less than BG want to charge for covering your walls with radiators.0 -
            why change it?????
-wont it be cheaper and less mess to upgrade it http://www.johnsonandstarley.co.uk/replacements/warmair-scrappage-scheme.asp
or even just leave it as it is till it breaks down..
