Benefit payments for 3rd and 4th January

Hi, does anyone know if we will get any DLA (or other benefit payments such as CB) that are due on the 4th, early? Payments have been all over the place this Christmas and its starting to get on my nerves! Was meant to (according to HMRC when i spoke to them before Christmas) be getting yesterdays CTC yesterday as normal but it went in on Christmas Eve and ive no idea why as it wasnt a bank holiday in England yesterday! Plus ive noticed a few others mentioning that CTC/WTC that were due today have been paid in early...how strange! Looked on DWP and HMRC website and it states that if theres a bank holiday anywhere in UK (England, Northern Ireland, wales OR Scotland) all benefits should be paid in a few days earlier regardless of where in the UK the bank holiday actually is. Has anyone received any of next weeks payments early????

I can't speak for next week but whenever there has been a bank holiday this year my tax credits and child benefit have always been paid early even though they are due on a Tuesday so shouldn't be affected.

May be something to do with my bank though (Barclays).

Ive had a similar thing happen to me. My CTC are due on a Wednesday but have been in on a aTuesday when theres been a bank hol in either Northern Ireland or Scotland
  • My tax credits were due on Monday and I got them last friday so I expect that it'll be the same this week we'll get them tomorrow rather than monday/tuesday. :)

Any payment made that is usually due on Wednesday 29th would have been paid on Christmas Eve as government depts were closed yesterday and therefore if you had not received your payment or it was incorrect you wouldn't have been able to contact them for asssitance.

  • Can anyone help me? I'm due DLA on the 4th January but that is a Scottish Bank Holiday. I can't find any guidance anywhere as to when to expect my payment (I've looked at link posted above as well which was no help), am I just to assume it will go in as normal?

Hi! Ive been asking this same question for the past few days and nobody really seems to know to be honest cos payments have been so messed up over this festive period! My partner gets his DLA on the 4th too which is a Scottish Bank Holiday. It states on HMRC website that if theres a bank hol ANYWHERE in the UK (England Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales), all benefits will be paid early regardless of where in the UK the bank holiday is!
I wasnt meant to get yesterdays Child Tax Credit early as yesterday was only a Bank Holiday in Northern Ireland but it went into my account on Christmas Eve.....very confusing! The HMRC said it was something to do with my bank (Halifax)
Plus ive heard a few others saying that they got todays tax credits early too which is very strange and some people i know have got next Tuesdays DWP payments early! I think its just a case of checking your account tomorrow. I know my Carers allowance should definately be in tomorrow cos i get that on a Monday.
  • I also think that it depends on your bank. Ive had payments put in my account a day early (Tuesday instead of Weds)throughout the year just cos theres been a bank hol in N.Ireland or Scotland and when ive rang DWP or HMRC, they always tell me that its something to do with my bank clearing the payments early. Dont know about you but i wish the DWP and HMRC would be a lot clearer about Christmas Payment schedule rather than just telling us to "expect your payment earlier than normal due to the bank holiday"......aargh!!! Its annoying isnt it?

Thanks for the reply, yes it's very annoying! I'm reading lots of conflicting answers and to be honest it's just confusing me more! :( Suppose I'll just be checking my account tomorrow, the main reason I'm worried is because I have a couple of payments going out over the next few days which I know will be taken out early because of the holiday (I know this for a fact because it's happened before - for some reason my Orange phone bill is the only payment that will go out later in the event of a bank holiday!)
