£2800 for a bathroom fitting...reasonable?

Hi everyone! : )
I am just wondering if this seems a bit steep to you... to have it fitted
I am having the following done.. I am based in London
The room is pretty small 1900mm x 1700mm
Removal and disposal of existing bath, basin, toilet and tiles
Install of bath and mixer shower
Install WC in same position
Install basin without pedestal in same position
Remove existing radiator, and fit 1 chrome heated towel rail in same location
Tile the half way up the walls and all of the floor, half of which is taken up with the bath
I got a quote for grand total of £2800, the guy is including all his materials in (grout and adhesive) this.
How much should I really be looking to pay for something like this? The only other quote I had was from Homebase and they were quoting over £4000!

As before, it's too expensive for what your having done IMO. Don't even consider homebase, b and q etc as 'genuine quotes'. Go to builders/plumbers that your friends and family can recommend.0

My plumber is charging £800 for the following in a new bathroom (attic Conversion), Saniflo (£400 approx), fitting wc, sink & bath, a heater and all the pipe work thats need too.
I'd ask around a few friends or neighbours.
I'm in Edinburgh0 -

Sounds way too cheap, Pipe and fittings could come to £200 alone
Is it not possible to run a conventional waste, Saniflos are noisy and require a yearly serviceHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
We are getting the bathroom done, we live in London, it's almost the same size bathroom as yours (1800mmx1800mm) and we are doing the same work as you except we are doing the wall tiles all the way up. We are paying £2100.0

Is the guy supplying the suite and tiles etc?0 -
Does it include any replacement of plumbing? what about tanking the floor under the tiles? Does it include the tiles?
we recently redid out bathroom and the tiling (tanking and sealing floor over the underfloor heating, tiling floor and floor to ceiling tiles) cost us 1900 - the tiler is good, but was expensive, the plumbing and fitting of the suite (toilet, bath, overhead shower,(incl adhesive and grout) sink (in unit) and a new towel rail) was 900 - this also included all new plumbing.
we ripped out ourselves and OH put new wedi board up and the underfloor heating down - a mate did the electrical work we needed.
The plumber had originally quoted for ripping out the suite and reduced his price by 100.
Our bathroom is slightly bigger than yours and has cost slightly less to put back in - so I would say that unless he is supplying more than the adhesive and grout - it is expensive.
We are in Guernsey so it is more expensive over here as well.
I'd ask for a breakdown of the costs and does that include vat?0 -
I'm in the process of having my bathroom completely renovated. Taking out an old bath, hand basin pedestal and toilet along with knocking down the airing cupboard (which is no longer needed due to the fact we have just had a new combi boiler installed). We've ordered a new corner shower bath suite for £499 with a glass shower screen. New tiles and adhesive/grout added £200 and new flooring another £100. Then we spent maybe another £150 on new cabinets/mirrors etc. Local handyman charges £100 a day and will take 5 days (finishes on Sat and only tiling left to do which he satrts tomorrow). So that's £500 so for probably £1500 we have got a brand new renovated bathroom. Very happy!!0

Sorry but 5 days to fit out a bathroom will lead to problems down the line
Either corners have been cut or the job will be as ruff as a badgers backsideHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -

Don't know how long you take but my chap don't hang about and doesn't compromise on quality either. Day 1 - Rip out old suite and tiles along with old airing cupboard. Day 2 - Rip out floor tiles and install new corner bath and over bath shower. Day 3 - Install new toilet and hand basin and also lay new floor and start tiling. Day 4 - Finish tiling and leave to set. Day 5 - Grout and paint and put up new cabinets. Now there is no way that corners have been cut. What else is he expected to do? He just doesn't mess around like most people and doesn't even have a dinner break etc. Job's a good 'un!0
