Need a Current account but can't help!!!!

Right so here we go... I need a current account (which i already have with HSBC) but the problem is that I only have a maestro card and I need a visa debit card. I applied to transfer over to First Direct (a parent company of HSBC) and they have declined my application because the credit scoring was too low. I also applied for Nationwide and the same problem occured.
I am only 19 and I only earn about £4000 a year but I have £600 saved already. The problem is, is that my mum was bad a paying debts and I know the house is black listed. I really don't know what to do. I was wondering if it would be ok to apply for an account with my Dads address because it has a good credit rating, or does it have to be from the address that my other bank account is related to?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If it gets you an account, then I'd move in with your dad for a week
The only trouble is they will usually ask for previous addresses if you haven't been at your new address for long. So it might not work.0 -
Well I have been a bit snidey and I've just changed my HSBC address to my Dads address and it has accepted it so the statement will get posted there now and I will tell the other bank that I have lived there for 5 years, lol. My Dads address wil be on my HSBC statement. That sounds good doesn't it? Unless the new bank sees my old address when they investigate the swtich. £100 to switch is too much to lose.

Electoral register helps, why should you be responsible for your Mum's debt in your credit rating, write to the agencies.Ignore self righteous post's.To be happy you need to make someone happy.0

I would say I live in my dad's address for 5 years if I was you.
But FIRST you need to register your name in the Electoral poll in your dad's address. Of course, you need your dad's consent. Because it might affect his council's Tax....0 -

I always believed that there is no any noticeable difference between Visa and Maestro. Am I wrong?
Order your £2 credit files and check them. There is no such thing as 'blacklisted house'. I think the main problem is your age and low income. If you don't have any joint financial products with other people even living at the same address, these people shouldn't cause problems for you. Otherwise see: Other people.0 -
I don't think it will make much difference with changing your address. Unless you have joint accounts with your mom, she won't be associated with you and shouldn't affect your credit.
It is prob more likely that it is your overall credit score, i.e salary, age etc that is affecting the application.
There is nothing wrong with Maestro, it is switch and the same as visa/delta.
Nationwide don't accept alot of people for their account, so maybe try a bank that uses visa/delta like Lloyds or Barclays??
But i agree with the above, check your credit file first.0 -

Out of interest why do you need a visa debit card? i.e. what does it offer that the Maestro doesn't?
As I think someone else has said:
- your credit score will not be related to your mothers unless you have a joint account somewhere.
- addresses are not 'blacklisted' though some may be marked if fraud has happened there in the past..
Its more likely that your own credit score isn't high enough..

Sunil
PS: I think First Direct use Maesto and not Visa Debit anyway + too many applications too close together can lower your credit score.0 -

However if it is self righteous to point out that lying is not the way to go, then Lord help this country.:mad:To be happy you need to make someone happy.0
