It covers third party liability if your dog is involved in an accident etc. If your dog runs into the road and causes a car accident, or god forbid hurts someone..... I see it as essential for a pet owner. But check all deals and go through quidco/topcashback??
Have put link to challenge above where i mention the zooplus code for £6 off - i managed to get dog food for 99p (only 2kg but my dog is tiny) - you could get some food for kitties - it is £6 for free
I am a qualified money advisor and pet insurance does not come in as a priority bill anywhere. I dont dispute that it can be seen as an essential but unless you make it a qualifying condition of owning any animal then how many people do you think actually have pet insurance as standard? Or third party liability? Very few in my experience.
The OP has come on here asking for advice, none of us know their circumstances and they do not need to tell us. Comments about savings are unhelpful, and uneccessary, so please can we all stick to the original question.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
Kimitatsu - thank you for that, very much appreciated.
Savyybunny - why Income Support? I was assessed at JC and got contricution based JSA.0 -
Income support would have been better as it pays alot more than jobseekers and you would find it easier to pay your bills. I was on job seekers a while back and was told I should have switched to income support for this reason, only benefit of being on jobseekers is at 6 months you get extra help to do training and work placements but you do get alot less money.
I would suggest going to the gov.uk website to see which benefits you are entitled to and take it from there.Comping wishlist for 2017

I do not believe I qualify for Income Support - isn't this something for single parents of young children?0

Savvy she cannot claim income support unless she is not available for work.
Currently the OP is on contributions based JSA, if they cannot work due to health reasons then they would automatically be put onto ESA.
IS is only now for the following groups:
<H3>Who can get Income Support
It's for people who all the following apply to:- are between age 16 and the age they can get Pension Credit
- have a low income
- work less than 16 hours a week
- aren't in full-time study (but there are some exceptions)
- don't get Jobseeker's Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance
- don't have savings above £16,000
- live in Great Britain
- a lone parent
- on parental or paternity leave
- a carer
- a refugee learning English who arrived less than a year ago
Because the OP has been awarded JSA she cannot apply for IS.Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0 -
IS & JSA pay the same amounts. It's just the qualifying conditions (ie, child under 7) that are different.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

So, you do have some money coming in from her rent and keep?0 -
Income Support is only available for single parents with a child under seven, or a carer for a person with disabilities, afaik.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

As per my previous post - this thread is about me, not about my daughter. She is moving out in January anyway - no, I did not ask for any money from her while I was working and now she is moving out so this is not an option.0

I second this.
She will get her next installment in 2-3-4 weeks time. I would ask her for some of that if she doesn't contribute at the moment.
If she is not paying rent or bills, god knows what she's spending that £1k a term on!
She can also be re-assessed if you have lost your job, and maybe entitled to extra loan or grant.
edit. nevermind. too late.0
