No it's not. Don't know where you got your info from but it's not free listing this weekend. No advert sent out and I just tried to list and it's charging.

If you are a Business Seller or your Private account is Below Standard then you can't list for Free.

We've been ebaying quite a lot recently, an electric toothbrush went for £12.39 and it was given to us for free... We've put all sorts of things up for sale and everything seems to be doing okay.

  • Another inspiring thread. I'm now planning on spending a day this weekend sorting through my odds and sods, starting an ebay profile and getting selling. Any advice for a newbie seller would be greatly received.

    Thank you ebayers x

Loads of info on the main ebay thread of the forum, so well worth having a look there as well

  • Hi all

I've got a pile of stuff I mean to put on Ebay. I've sold bits before, but mostly 'buyer collects' (it was all heavy stuff).

When you calculate postage do you use the Post Office tables? How do you calculate for packing? What do you wrap items in?

I think I might start putting CDs and DVDs on Amazon too. I really need an income boost!!

There should be something on the Royal Mail website where you type in the weight of the package and it tells you the postage. Just need to weigh your item and remember the stuff you pack it in will add weight to it too. If something is about 495g then you'd look at postage for something over 500g.

I usually recycle the packaging that stuff I order comes in, as long as it's not badly damaged and you take the labels off carefully you should be okay. I've sold around 40 things that have been wrapped in recycled packages and never had a complaint... I also bought a roll of brown paper from the Post Office for 99p. You should wrap fragile items in bubble wrap too.

I haven't sold anything on Amazon but I know that CDs do alright on ebay, especially if they coincide with a band's tour or something... Good luck :)
