I've asked all my credtors for a copy of my signed agreements..I didn't sign one with Littlewoods so i've asked for my debt to be written off..whether they do or not is another thing and no you don't have to pay for a copy..

Thanks kim03. I will write to them today, and see what happens. At the very least I'll know where I stand with them, and it might keep them off my back for a while :)

I too owed £1,000 to Abbey on an overdraft but to try and reduce having to pay the fee for going over this with DDs I am in the process of switching to A+L as they have agreed to give me a 0% £900 overdraft. Hope that during the time I have this I can pay it off as the abbey overdraft was £5 pm interest plus £20 if I went 1p over the limit. Should save £100 over the year towards paying off the loan/overdraft.

I haggled like hell if they told me £2,500 i would insist that all i could afford was £1,000 and go from there, maybe up it a 100 or 2, just to see how low they will go, It will effect your credit rating obviously but your in the mire anyway, so really, as i saw it, i/you had/have nothing to lose, but money to gain.

If you agree to a settlement figure instead of the full amount, how much/long does this stay on your credit rating/record for?

I got a nice letter from LX Direct this morning, replying to my request for a copy of my credit agreement. Here's just a snippet:

"With reference to your letter dated **/**/**** I can confirm that we will not be pursuing the above littlewoods extra account for the outstanding balance of £***.**.

As this debt remains unsatisfied this will be noted on our internal files for future reference..."

So it does pay to check these things. One down three debts to go!!!

Owing rather a lot of money on various cards etc, does anyone think it would be worth me contacting my lenders informing them of my financial difficulties and seeing if they would settle for a pecentage of total balance as a write of of my debt with them? Does anyone know whether this will count as a default on my credit file?
Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
    Debt free 21st Oct 2011.

    All thanks to :money:

I've just been reading through this thread, and noticed the bit about catalogues and signed agreements. I'm currently in a DMP with Payplan, but am still getting harassed by creditors, including LX Direct. I'm sure I never signed an agreement with them, so I'm going to write to them asking for a copy of my agreement.
Has anybody else requested a copy, and do they charge you to hand over a copy?

I wrote to great universal asking for my credit agreement. They wrote back asking me to sign an agreement they had put in with the letter and also not to dispute the debt and they await my proposal for re payment. Dont know what to do now.

If they want you to sign an enclosed agreement then that means that you don't currently have one, so dispute the debt. Do not sign the agreement or send it back.
