argos - faulty item but no box or receipt

any idea what i can do please?
my 4 year old daughter wanted a fluffy go walkies dog from santa i could not get one locally so my brother bought one for me in another argos store.
on xmas morning she opened it and was delighted however there were no batteries included and now only 2 days later we have bought some only to find the dog is faulty (won't walk and the legs are making awful creaking crunching sounds) now the packaging is in the rubbish which has been collected and my brother says he paid cash and cannot find the receipt!
my daughter thinks we have given it back to the elves who will repair it, do argos have any obligation to replace without me having proof, as i know its sold in many different stores?
i will have to buy another one as i say she is eagerly awaiting the elves returning it, but just wondered if i had any rights before i do?
thanks

It's the wek after Chrstmas even Argos have a heart sometimes and appreciate that kids get gifts that are faulty I am sure they will help you...0

OP, you did ask about your rights.
I am afraid you have none.
Without any proof of purchase Argos do not have to do anything.
But as Nearlyrich says... go to Argos and ask.
Btw... it is now 30 December.
Not two days after Christmas.
Round our way it has been possible to buy batteries on every day since 26 December. :beer:0 -
thanks i will try at our local argos tomorrow, if not the hunt is on to find another i struggled the first time around.
we discovered it did not work on 27th so it was 2 days after xmas, also my mum's local shop had no triple A batteries left on boxing day i am only posting this now as i have just gotten home from my mum's house where she has no internet.
however i really do not see what all these details have to do with the question i asked?0 -
Did you buy it with a credit card?
If so do you have online banking enabliing you to printout a statement showing the purchase? (blank out the account details).
OR was someone else with you when you purchased it that can confirm you bought it there a a witness?0 -
They're still selling it at Argos and my local store shows stock, could you reserve one online and then go to the store and ask for an exchange because it's faultyThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

Go to Argos , purchase another one of the toys.....swap the broken one for the working one and then take it back to Argos the next day with the receipt , get a refund ..... problem solved lolThe loopy one has gone :j0

Hi Louise - in my experience Argos aren't too bad without receipts - if you go in and explain, give them as many details as possible of where and when your brother bought it and see what they say. You may find they'll just do a straight swap. Good luck!0

You will need a proof of purchase.
Fluffy Go Walkies aren't exclusive to Argos, and unless you have a proof of purchase/the box or anything that proves it was bought from Argos, it is highly unlikely to be exchanged. If you don't have the receipt or bank statement you could use the box (unless you binned it) or if the item still had it's picking ticket (small ticket with coloured tape) somewhere.no-oneknowsme
