Click and Buy charges

Hello - first post so be nice please!

I have a 'Click and Buy' account that debits money from my bank account when i make a purchase from Itunes. I made a purchase to the value of 99p. My bank account was short by 16p and so the bank rejected it and charged me £30. Fair enough, my fault, hard to swallow but expected!

I then received an email from Click and Buy advising that my account was suspended until i made the payment. I assumed this to be 99p.......oh no! £25.99. They have charged me £25 for costly banking charges (you're telling me!).

I'm awaiting a breakdown of exactly what my £25 charge is for.

This message is just a warning as this was not something i was aware of. I will be cancelling my Click and Buy account!

    OUCH!!! Whilst suspended, can you still use and copy etc the music you already paid for? How about dumpint the expensive and dreaded iTunes for AmazonMP3 instead?
  • I signed up to click and buy on the premise that it was a free service to use, (It claims this across the website). Then to my surprise I had a £3.06 (iTunes) invoice bounce, however, what was even more surprising was that Click and buy had suspended my account and charged me £25!!!! OH MY GOD! Your bank give you a £5 grace before they start to charge you! I'm disgusted! How is this legal when bank charges are being disputed and refunded? In addition to this, they have also deactivated my iTunes account so I am unable to download anything, I have even changed the payment method from Click and Buy to my Visa Debit account but No, iTunes wont reactivate my account until the payment to C&B is made, Tut Tut iTunes Tut Tut!! :mad:

    You shouldn't really be buying from itunes if you are so short on money. There is lots of information on this forum about budgeting, perhaps you could have a look?

    Why do you need to use C&B with iTunes? Doesn't iTunes itself provide this facility, by saving your card details and taking payment when you purchase something?

    Also, if you register your card with iTunes and there's not enough money in your account, the card payment is rejected instantly (fee free!) and iTunes just stops you downloading/updating content until your balance is paid off (again, fee free!)

    gee, aren't you helpful?

    I'd have thought users of this forum more than any would know what just because it's in their T&C's doesn't mean that it's right / fair / legal. Plus, this is the 'vent & warn' board - that's what they're doing - warning others.

    I am pretty helpful actually, the posters seemed to act like they weren't
    notified of these charges. I was simply pointing out that they were in fact notified.

    Its perfectly legal, and its perfectly fair to be held to terms they have agreed
    to, is it right? well that's open to personal opinion.

    And the OP was venting about it, and warning others about the problem (the purpose of this board, remember) - not trying to wriggle out of it / deny responsibility.

    A quick search on this - or any similar - site for 'unfair charges' will tell you that no, not necessarily (not saying that this is absolutely the case here, as they're not a bank, but the principle still applies, and shows you can't state something to be legal/fair just because it's in the T&C's)

    Bank charges need to be proportionate. Charging a customer £30 for being 16p overdrawn (a sum of nearly two hundred times the 'crime') is not proportionate. You might have some success pointing this out to your bank and asking for the charge to be withdrawn. My OH's done this before with no quibble whatsoever.
