Ecconomical "sporty" cars

And a clio is a real mans car is it?
Having driven a 197 i'd describe it as 'nippy'.
mx5 is one of the best sports cars out there. Check out on a motoring forum such as pistonheads and see what the perception of a one is by people who know their cars.
I would suggest your mate gets his STi checked out. By 60mph he should be heading towards 3 seconds clear of you, and the sheer torque of the thing should pull him away from you on the twisties too.
BUT, you're missing the point if you think an mx5 is just about speed.
Never said it was but it suited my young male image, rather than a male on a mid life crisis.
There was nothing factually wrong with his STI. They are just not as rapid as some think.
My Clio was mapped so may have had a bearing but they aren't slow. Top gear done a test with the new 200 cup and Focus RS. The focus pulled slightly on the straights but couldn't shake the clio on the twisties.
Renaultsport clio are massively underestimated. I've had a Clio 182/197, the 182 felt more raw but then 197 felt much more posed in the twisty stuff. If Adam and Eve were created first

I'm surprised you dont think an STi is rapid, most of the later models will crack 0-60 in under five seconds, as opposed to your car at 6.9?
The Top Gear test proves only what a lot of people thought all along - the RS Focus isnt all that. For kick off its 0-60 time is 5.7 seconds, so a whole second slower than an STi, and it doesnt have 4WD and no matter how 'trick' a diff you have, thats a lot of power to get down to the wheels. For significantly less money i'd have one of these...

I have a soft spot for Renaultsports and they are great little cars, but just not in the leagues of STIs / Evos by any stretch of the imagination.0 -

i'm not saying they are in the leagues of Evo's/STI but what you do get is a lot of performance at a fraction of the price.
You could by a 04/05 182 with full "cup" packs now for around £4k which imo is alot of fun for little moneyIf Adam and Eve were created first

Yes, its good value at that. I've even seen 172's down around the £1500 mark, and 197's can be bought for a little over £6K.0 -

Want my 197 lol
Black with cup spoiler on rear.
waiting for Black Horse to come collect it, as new born son = no ££ = Car going back :mad:If Adam and Eve were created first

it does look like a girl's car tbh
Agreed they aren't quick at all, Even in the twisties they arent brilliant.
I've handed many MX5 drivers their a$$es on a plate in my RenaultSport clio (197bhp) - Also my flat mate in his WRX STI Scooby was shocked that he couldn't leave me.
They're not really comparable though are they. A good MK1 is around £1,500, I'm guessing the cheapest 197 is around £6,000. Do you get your a$$ on a plate when you're up against an M3?
As for for not being good in the twisties, you've obviously never driven one.
197 is a good shout and is probably a good ownership proposition in terms of depreciation and fuel costs.0 -

An M3 will gladly hand most cars their a$$es on a plate so not a fair comparison really.
Correct i've never driven one - never wanted to but i've met a few on track days that weren't much copIf Adam and Eve were created first

I forgot to mention mines is a 2 litre - so 32mpg is probably pretty good!
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0
