I want a Blackberry!
Hi
Im on an Orange pay monthly which doesnt end its contract until Nov '11 I cant get a better phone handset until Aug '11 so thought I could get a new Blackberry on pay as you go and stick my Orange sim in, the handset I have now is a Samsung which im not happy with anymore.
A few questions if anyone can help
Will i be able to just swap sims and away I go?
Will I have to pay extra £5 to get the internet and messenger service for Blackberry? and is that straightforward?
Lastly which Blackberry is best the Torch or Curve or any other Blackberry?
Thanks in advance

I have looked around at PAYG - not exhausively as my plan is to sign up to a monthly contract... I notice that on PAYG BB you need to pay in £10 a month to keep it going, plus the amount of data allowed is little (says unlimited but all subject to fair use, which can be 50MB to 100MB). You also have to buy a phone, cheapest 8520 is around £130.
Best to just sign up to a BB contract if you desperately needed one. There are curve 8520 deals that works out under £13 a month over 24 months, and 9780 deals that work out at £16.67 a month over 24 months. These come with free handsets.0 -

I have a Blackberry Torch on contract. For the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) which is your push email, Blackberry Messenger and Internet you will need the Blackberry add on. The cost is dependent on service provider.
This is what I have on O2 and I have never gone over on the Data even though the Blackberry is permanently connected to email.
24 months contract at £35:
1000mins
ultd txts
750mb and ultd Wi-Fi.0 -
Blackberry Curve on PAYG here, I paid £ 130 for it and pay £ 5 per month for the data bundle which gives me free internet up to 100 Mb. Topup is £ 10 and gives you 100 Mb and 300 texts for a month (on Orange)
I save on usage by getting the phone to latch to the home broadband and DH has a Blackberry so we can BB message each other for free instead of texting/calling. I actually communicate more with DH than before now that it's freeI try to text friends rather than call them and to call from the landline whenever possible so I don't top up every month.
The Curve is the lower end of the range with the Torch the newer model (it is a slide with the traditional BB keyboard underneath). It is not available on PAYG yet.
Other models are the Pearl (different design and older model), the Storm (touch-screen) and the Bold (was the top of the range model before the Touch). BB tend to soup up previous versions but stick to the same features, with the exception of the Torch that has a different, newer operating system.
Great piece of kit once you've got the hang of it, a good investment both for fun (games, networking, music) and productivity. The more features you discover, the more reliant you become on itKeep calm and carry on0 -
just bought a BB Curve (pink) for my daughter for Xmas for £129 (also had other colours) on PAYG, the pink one also came unlocked, which was a bonus from Phones4u
have just bought the Sim only deal mentioned both on here & HUKD, for £10 I got 600 minutes, 500 texts, Unlimited internet + 1 booster on T-mobile
had to pay £5 for BB services/messenger etc (looks like all networks charge this extra fee for Blackberrys)
anyway for £15 for all the above, I'm well pleased0 -

I've found the post, now I'm confused I want this offer, so do I then go out and buy a blackberry and just put the sim in it? Does it work like that? i am useless with phones!!0 -
All you need to do is swap the sim (making sure your new Blackberry is either sim-free or locked to Orange), ring Customer Services and Orange will add the Blackberry service for £5 a month. But once you've added the service you are stuck with it until the end of your contract.0

the blackberry phone you get is unlocked
(the one I got in Pink from phones4u was, I believe also phones bought from CPW are also unlocked)
or buy a blackberry locked to T-mobile, then you can sign up to a sim only deal.
what ever network you get you will have to pay £5 for BB service/messenger etc to be enabled, this is standard practice0
