Stopcock Key

We had a burst pipe on chirstmas night only to find our house had no stopcock. The plumber was dumbfounded and had to drain the sistern in order to cap the pipe that was burst.
Apparently the people that lived here before us turned the lane and coalhouse into a kitchen and rerouted the pipework, but left the room uninsulated. The housing association never took the pipework out of there and put in a new stopcock. I will be calling to complain and ask for compensation. If there had been a stopcock the damage to our things would not have been that bad, but the water flowed for over 45 minutes until the plumber got here, and another 30-an hour of the plumber looking for the stopcock before admitting defeat.
There isn't any at the pavement either. The only thing I can think of is this large metal square in our garden that was covered with dirt when we moved in. I only found it after digging, and it has since been paved with rocks.0 -
After looking around the house I have found that only the cold water in the kitchen is turned off via the 'mains' tap under the sink. The hot water passes through the combi boiler so not sure where to turn that off, apart from the mains outside. The cold water in the bathroom upstairs is a total mystery.0

normally.
if you have a combi boiler, the main stopcock will turn everything off.
its all fed directly from the mains. the cold taps and boiler/hot taps.Get some gorm.0 -
In my house the stopcock under the sink turns off all water to the house.
When closed only the cold (drinking water) tap will appear to be off as the other taps & boiler are fed from the storage tank in the roofspace. These will only stop flowing when the storage volume in the tank is used up or the outlet valves from the tank also closed.0
