Stopcock Key

Hi,
After the recent water problems here in NI I was wondering if someone would know if/where I can get a free stopcock key. Surely the Water Board should supply these as gas companies supply free gas box keys.
There have been quite a few burst pipes and this is where the main supply would have to be cut off.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
C

Some confusion perhaps. Most houses have two stopcocks - one at the point of departure from the mains, and the other just inside where the supply enters the building. The internal one doesn't need a key. The outside one may need a key. Types vary, so check what is required. Plumbers merchants and some of the DIY sheds sell them. In some cases, your supplier might give or sell you one. Depending on the end fitting, you can even make your own."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0

ormus, is that real? lol
Will ask the water suppliers after things die down. The stopcock is out on the pavement in front of house. From what I can tell, we don't have a mains off inside. Just a tap under the sink to turn off mains to kitchen. Mains water runs into gas combi boiler and can't see where to turn off mains before or after the boilers apart from the mains out on the pavement.
That one at phoenix looks good. Came across this one...http://www.screwfix.com/prods/71652/Hand-Tools/Plumbing-Tools/Specialist-Plumbing/Rothenberger-Universal-Stopcock-Key-36-?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Datafeed-_-Hand%20Tools-_-Rothenberger%20Universal%20Stopcock%20Key%2036%22. Says it's universal.
I will still be trying to get it for free.
Thanks everyone.

I dont know these but I have purchase things from them before & it has all been fine.
I have one of these & it does the job & also has a pointed end to help open the covers.
It will do most of them. Not Again0 -
We have recently had new neighbours and they had the water board men in for maybe a water meter who knows they are practically rebuilding the whole place....and they could not find any stopcock on or near there property...it turns out that our one just outside our gate and under one of our wheelie bins...is also for there property....we also have the waste water drain access points on our sideway for these neighbours and it can be a problem with blockages from time to time...we have a new set of rods since we lost our last neighbours that had the kit....back to question...the stopcock is not always where you might expect it to be.
