Canon mv630i - dead CCD?

Hope someone can help, this has stumped me, and don't know what the problem is, or what an indicative cost of repair might be. Above camcorder, bought 2/3yrs ago, worked beautifully, for ever and ever, amen. Captured some 'first baby' footage one day, and the next day, I only get a black screen with red lines/interference!…

Just sent the one we hold at work off to Plymcare who are happy to repair it for free. I'm amazed its still available!
