Does this bill sound right to you??

Hi,

I have just received our second water bill since Anglian Water changed/updated/reset our meter. The first bill after they did this was not great - nearly £200 for 1 quarter! But after looking at previous bills, it transpired that it was following the first ACTUAL meter reading since, well, forever. So we paid it.

Our second and most recent bill is just under £90 for 1 quarter. This was taken from an ACTUAL reading also, which I took myself. I didn't really think much of it (being young(ish) and having no previous experience with such things) until my Mum and her partner popped round and commented that our water bill seemed very high.

For the 3 months that the last bill was calculated on, there were 3 people living here for 2 months and 2 people for the remaining 1 month. We live in a 3 bed flat, with no central heating and no dishwasher and are very careful with electricity and water useage. We do have an electric shower though. Although all of the previous bills have been ESTIMATES, the water board estimated our useage as between 0-3 cubic metres per quarterly bill. This new ACTUAL bill is 35 cubic metres.

Is it just me, or does that seem like a lot?? Any comments are gratefully received!

£200 is a lot for 3 months but if no actual read was supplied at the move in date then really that is a difficult bill to argue based on the info that the water company would have had at the time.

It is said that most people use about 60M3 per year so 35m3 for 3 months is not that bad and don't forget there is standing charges and surface water drainage etc.

Is the shower a power shower ? Cos they use quite a lot of water.

I would suggest taking a reading now and then using the water as you normally would do for a week and then taking another reading and working out the difference.

Do that and then come back and once we have those figures we can look at your average daily consumption and see what if anything can be done.
