Good budget TV recommendations?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to purchase a new HD TV, however due to budget restraints I’m limited to a Maximum of £500.
I’m looking in the 40-42” region and would prefer HD freeview to be included, but it’s not essential. I’m primarily a console gamer so a solid performance from a console would certainly be required.
Now a quick look on Amazon, Richer Sounds and Comet reveals plenty of 40-42” TVs in the £4-500 range, so many in fact that I’m at a bit of loss.
Can anyone make any recommendations or point me in the direction of some killer deals? Also are any particular makes to be recommended or avoided? Also is LCD or LED the way forward?

Easy peasy - Richer Sounds has the Panasonic Viera 42S20 for £540, excellent TV including FreeviewHD, but I'm sure someone had said the G20 (which adds a freeesat tuner) could be had for £500, which is even better.
And if you go with LCD, don't just buy something because someone tells you it has LED backlighting. A good CCFL backlit LCD will beat a cack LED backlit LCD any day. Don't believe the hype!0
