  • My dad has the 450 and it is fault but HP is not going to do anything. The printer has only been using about a dozen times, it was got for holidays but before we when last year we saw that it was not printing because of the ink drip tray was cracked hardly fair if we only used it about a dozen times is it.

Cheers Goofy, but I couldn`t find the printer to uninstall it!
However I did disconect printer from Pc and it still printed the test pages.
Thanks worto, the top orange button (I think its paperfeed?) Is continually on even though no paper is jammed so it does seem like a faulty/ sticky button!!!
Has anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?
Printer was given to me so no warranty or receipt!!!
Thanks again everyone You MSE`ers always come up trumps:-)

    I suspect you're using WinXP.

If so, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. Right-click the HP icon & delete it.

Shut off & disconnect your printer from the computer & reboot.

Now reinstall the printer, reboot & check to see if the problem persists. G

Sorry once you proved it was the printer I thought I'd leave you in someone elses hands as I've never done printer repairs.

You need to stop messing about on the computer because you still had the problem when it was totally disconnected from the computer so at best you are wasting your time & at worst will cause yourself more problems by chaging perfectly good settings and drivers.

Look more towards an actual mechanical problem with the button on the printer, it's been a while now so I can't remember how the case comes off, you might be better off going to a local computer shop (not PC word) to see if they can have a look. Get a quote first though cuz it might work out cheaper to get a new one & check that there will be no charge if they can't fix it.

We did find a 6 inch ruler inside a printer once - she came in fuming as well because it was still under warrenty but we said it had to be sent away & wouldn't give a refund (it was 11 months old!) we said we would have a quick look in case it was something obvious - it seems her toddler had been playing in her office at home and had jammed a ruler in it but it had fell inside & you couldn't see it without taking the case off:-)

Anyway I'm kind of rambling now.

Is there anybody here with more phsyical knowlege of how the buttons work on this printer? We might be able to replace the button mech with one from a broken printer.

    good luck,
    worto.

    Cheers worto,
You made me laugh with the ruler bit :-)
I appreciate all of your help. Have turned it off altogether now and disconnected :-(
With a birthday and christmas coming up I think Its new printer time, so sad as I got for free.
Anyway, any advice as I am thinking of going all-in-one????

    hia,

I got one of these dell924

Only because my dad asked me to find him a new laptop and dell were doing a deal at the time where you could addon the printer for £28 - bargain. It seems fine but I hardly use a printer these days, all of my bulk printing I do at work  so I didn't bother looking into ink costs or comparing it to other brands.

You can tell how well I checked it out before buying - when I went to install the cartridge I found a scanner in it! :rotfl: I had no idea. For £28 I didn't mind what it was like really.

It seems to be nearly £70 at the mo, might be worth starting a new thread or looking around for a printer reccomend thread. If you know anyone about to buy a new computer or laptop but they already have a printer see if you can team up - this is the best way to get a discount on them especially with xmas coming up.

    worto.
