Freaking wireless!

OK....So I'm a bit stupid and appear to have either:
1. Purchased the wrong hardware, or
2. No good at setting up home networks.
I have a USB adsl modem (very basic one) which I connect to our main PC. Upstairs, I have another computer, which I have had connected via an ethernet crossover cable. No problems there, but upstairs computer has had to move even further away from main PC with no realistic way of connecting via crossover cable. Wireless is the way I though, so purchased a wireless router to spread my woderful broadband connection throughout my house.
However...all of the instructions for the wireless router say to connect an ethernet cable between the modem and router. My modem only has a USB connection. The wireless router is detailed here http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/113747
Is there anyway I can use this router without having to buy a modem with ethernet cable connection?
Regards,
wally.

USB modems are pants anyway and you'll be glad to be rid of it in the long run."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It might be worth going back to the shop (or wherever) you bought the original router and asking can you swap for a modem/router as this may well work out a lot cheaper (and a lot better than standalone usb modems). If it is fairly recently you bought the router the shop might be ok as they will get slightly more money out of you???? Just checked and ebuyer have this wireless modem/router for £36 http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119387No reliance should be placed on the above, as i don't believe anything i say either...0

I happen to have a Female USB to a male RJ45 adapter in my possession. Would that work?0

Swap the router for an adsl model, which plugs into the phoneline, and forget about the usb modem.
Ebuyer sell cheap ones, and as their spec page is slightly misleading (mentions adsl), then they should swap it.

I agree with most of the advice on this thread and that the OP would have been better buying a wireless modem/router, but if he cannot exchange it and doesn't want to spend more in the short term, couldn't he just use the USB modem plugged into the main PC as it has been, then share the Broadband connection with the other PC using the wireless router? It means that both PCs need to be turned on for the upstairs one to use the internet, but that's no worse than the wired ethernet setup he's replacing. (I presume the second PC has wireless capability). There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

If you are not under a contract why not change to a provider that gives you a wireless modem for free? I am with AOL and the one they give you runs 3 wirelessly and it says it will run 5 (we have not got 5).0
