  • ok sorry

will give statement bit as example

    23rd Dec BACS credit £500 - available balaNCE £361
    24th Dec Transfer £360- balance showing £140- available £1
    27th Dec CASH £101
    27TH dEC CASH £37.24

Doesnt make sense. There is no way those sums can be even raken out in cash and i know for a fact i didnt take them. They have also sat as pending for a week before showing today

I think your best bet is to phone up the bank and ask them.

The questions that I would ask are:

    - were these really cash withdrawals?
    If so...
    - which branch did they take place at?
    Otherwise ...
    - what type of withdrawal was it? And where did it take place?

One question for you: do you have any other accounts with either Halifax or Bank of Scotland that are in arrears? The bank will take credit balances in one account to pay off debts elsewhere, and it will show up as cash.

nope no other accounts. Couldnt be a counter withdrawal, not allowed on this type of account for under £300. When i get through to bank again will ask those questions thanks. They told me petrol from debit card last time i phoned, which is strange as i dont drive, couldnt tell me where it was supposedly bought though
  • The reason it says cash is because the transactions were delayed in being posted to your account.

It doesn't mean they were cash withdrawals!

Just ring the helpline. 0845 604 5494 and ask what the debits were.

    Simple as that.

Thats the point, i already did, even before Xmas when it was showing as unavailable!!! All i got was story about card used to pay for petrol, thet stopped card and still took these cash withdrawals out. They are supposed to be ringing me back later
  • Yes, but as I said they are not cash withdrawals.

They are only showing as that on your account because they were posted after the original debit dates.

The helpline should be able to look at a list of your transaction and advise you what they were.

If the transactions were pending when the card was cancelled then there is always a possibilty they will debit, whuch they did in your case.

Doesn't sound like they are being too helpful at the moment.

I would try and call again as you may get a more competent person this time.

    Good luck.

  • Ok well after a phone call to Halifax again they told me phone banking has been blocked as I didnt know security details so cvouldnt tell me anything I was advised to go into branch

Went into local branch this time rather than one near work and explained the situation to them. Not particularly helpful but said they would make a fraud report, which apparently wasnt done despite the bloke i saw last week saying he had done it. Card had been stopped though.

Got told that they could see the transactions on screen but couldnt tell what they were which isnt much help.

Branch staff suggested someone couldve used details frrom previous card then seemed stumped when iy was pointed out to them I had only had the account a fortnight before this happened so didnt habe a previous card

Said it was now reported to fraud and expect to hear from head office. Still no word of when i get money back and i need to be able to get to work next weejm which is impossible with no cash

If branch staff aren't being helpful and you can't speak to anyone on the phone about your account, the next best thing would be to either phone or write to the complaints department as they are obliged to investigate the whole saga properly. You might not get your money back immediately due to them having to investigate your complaint, but at least they will take it seriously.

One thing I don't understand about what you've written though, is that you say "They told me petrol from debit card last time i phoned, which is strange as i dont drive, couldnt tell me where it was supposedly bought though" yet you are also saying that there are two debits on your account showing as "cash"?

If they are debit card transactions, they would show up as debit card transactions and give the company name and location of the transaction - at least they do on my bank accounts.

Definately something dodgy going on here!

Bank said that is showed as cash due to coming out after card stoppef. Physically couldnt have taken cash out on that date as was a bank holiday!!
  • The branch staff wouldnt be able to see who the money went to because the transactions were done on the previous card which is now cancelled.

You need to ask the branch to call the payments department who should be able to see what the payments were for. Also when your in the branch tell them you want this logged as a complaint which means they have to fully investigate it.
