transfering money from a cash ISA

Hi

I have a cash ISA with First Direct. I was under the impression that I could withdraw my money out at any time.

Today I was attempting to transfer money from it to my halifax current account

The options it gives are:

Pay an existing bill, someone i've paid before, between my first direct accounts

or

Pay a new bill or someone for the first time

if I click on either it says

"you cannot set destination details on this account. Please select 1st Account"

Can anyone tell me how to go about transferring money....or do I have to wait til April?

Thank you

You trying to withdraw money not transfer it to a new ISA?

Don't you have a linked account with the ISA which is the "1st Account" it's asking for? I was under the impression their ISA's operated with this linked 1st account.

As long as the terms of the ISA allow withdrawals (ie not fixed rate ISA), you don't have to wait until April.

    Their web site says:-

"Charge free instant withdrawals can be made by transfer to another first direct account in your name, over the phone or via Internet Banking. Transfers to other banks may take longer."

If you are unable to do an internal transfer online then phone them.
If you wish to transfer to an external account then you cannot do that online and you will need to phone them.

If you have an ISA only and want to withdraw then you need to ring them.
If you have another FD account then transfer it to that first.
If you really want an ISA transfer then you need to fill in a form with the new lender and ask them to transfer the money. In this case DON'T withdraw as you'll loose the ISA status.
  • Thanks for all your replies

as mentioned above I need to transfer funds from my Cash ISA (which is instant access) to my Halifax current account...I thought I had a linked account (Halifax) but it appears not...I have with another ISA (A&L)

    thanks again
