New Laptop very slow

Comments

  • thanks. Ive removed both now. When I restart the PC, I now get a system error -

mwlDaemon.exe - system error. The program cant start because sysenv.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

Is this referring to the MSE? How do I reinstall it?

    thanks

Apparently an issue with acer laptops: and you do have MyWinLocker Service - perhaps uninstall it.

Also can uninstall: google toolbar, google notifier, bing toolbar, google toolbar, msn toolbar, google software updater. Also is the nikon programme for transfer of pictures from your camera? If yes, I don't think you need it to copy pictures off your camera if you go by my computer. Also Epson V5 and V4 service? What are they (printer?) and do you really need it?
  • when I go to add/remove programs, there is no option to remove winlocker. Only the option to change it?

I use the nikon program to transfer my photos. the epson is for my printer (a whole other problem there trying to get the wireless to work - it doesnt seem to like windows 7), so Im happy to keep them. I will have a go at removing the google stuff now though!

  • Does anyone know where I can download winlocker again from?

When you say it's slow, so you mean that it's slow online, i.e. to load web pages?
Or is it slow with all the other functions too?
How much RAM did it come installed with? Should be at least 3GB I hope on a new laptop running W7.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • One other thing that is sometimes missed - when not plugged into the mains the hardware "slows down" in order to preserve power. Have you tried running the laptop plugged in (sorry if I missed this earlier)? If that makes a difference (plug in to mains then boot to be sure) then you can tweak the settings up in the power management section of control panel, but at the cost of battery life.
