tina - some lovely things there:T
You all sound so organised -unlike me..............lol
New Years promise to self -stop making stuff when I hit my quota so I don't have bits and bobs kicking about that I've duplicated !

So, first off will be foster daughters birthday in March and sons in April..............(scratches head and thinks ???)

Already done foster daughter a gardening hamper last year and she's have various boxes of all sorts so I'll have to think hard.
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

  • All looks good count me in.Always make birthday and Christmas cards. What talented people you are.

I haven't come across anyone who doesn't like homemade,in fact my family almost expect it now.

I have found thank yous after presents aren't always very forthcoming, especially from certain families and their children. Try not to take it to heart. My husband says manners cost nothing.

Did a rag rugging course recently and it's really great in using up old clothes and fabric. The lady who taught it was called Deborah Hastings and she has a website and sells kits.

Good Luck everyone.Looking foward to admiring everyone's creations in 2011.

Aw thanks far too kind. Everything is really easy to do - it has to for me to be able to do it! I taught myself to sew this year (oh thats last year now :rotfl:)so all the fabric things are all for beginners.

  • Hello  Is there room here for one more? I've spent the last half an hour reading this thread and it's so good to finally find some likeminded people! :D I'm a stay at home mum to my 5 year old daughter and am 24. Most people around here my age are of the alien young carefree generation and the local craft shop is mainly full of retired old ladies who think i'm a bit nuts! :rotfl:OH is into "boy" crafts - making space ships etc. He's still better at technical stuff than me (like sticking stuff to cards straight! pmsl) so I tend to make quirky unusual cards etc so I don't have to worry about the not so straight lines!! :rotfl:So I'm kind of on my own really when it comes to like minded friends :(

My family are usually very appreciative of homemade food as they all either don't cook or have a very hectic lifestyle and don't have time to bake treats. This year I made lighter Christmas cakes with homemade icing and let DD decorate them - I'm rubbish at decorating and at least now if people think it looks like a 5 year old decorated it, it's because she did! ;) I saw family that we gave some to on Boxing Day and they were well impressed!

Last year I had problems storing my creations (Christmas pudding and cake.) Despite loadng them up with booze and wrapping tightly they had gone mouldy within a week or so because of the damp problems in the house, so I had to remake the lot a few days before Christmas!:eek:

    Last year I made:

Chocolate truffles (a must in this family!)
    Flapjack
    Christmas cake
    Christmas Pudding
    Chilli Chutney
    Vegetable Curries
    Jam
    Snowman soup
Retro sweetie hamper for my brother
A personalised pamper hamper for my mum and MIL
A posh tea selection and hot choc mini hamper for secret santa
A mini pamper/hot choc hamper for OH's colleague who went on Mat Leave
    Jars of sweets
Cellophane wrapped small presents from DD e.g. moisturiser
    Cards
    Mothers Day gifts
New Baby Hamper (weaning + mummy meals)
    Refuge Hamper
    Personalised Baby hats

No idea about this year yet!

I guess it helps that everyone I know has a sweet tooth, so if I make some kind of chocolate or cake creation it is well received. BIL to be is 16 and he would sell his soul for a big jar of our homemade truffles (OH's secret recipe!)

I noticed someone talking earlier in the thread about the best places for cellophane and ribbon. Last year I bought mine from ebay for a few pounds. In hindsight I should have bought more and varying sizes - it was insanely difficult trying to wrap 30 bottles of pamper bits in cellophane that wasn't wide enough!

I got a 50m roll of curling ribbon for a couple of quid off ebay - well worth it!! And for packaging food I bought 200 cellophane bags for £4 again off ebay.

I haven't really done any sewing since junior school but would love to get started again. A sewing machne is too expensive at the moment as we're cutting back and saving. What beginner projects have you planned?
    Engaged since 25/12/2009

Well I was engaged. Until we separated on 8th March :( Here's hoping that having a break will help us solve all our problems. Until then I'm a single mum on a tight budget :(

wow! these are super fantastic .... ***skipping over to your blog***

    Thank you

ohh, ment to say... if u want to make liquer, just leave the flavoured vodka/gin mix somewhere dark for 2 years -- drinking before wont harm you, and still tastes nice (the germans do this, but as we dont have basements, we're tempted easier to drink it sooner lol)

Well, racking my poor little brain and all I can come up with this year so far is
Dish of pebbles with music notes painted on them, cotton buds cut shorter and the ends covered with black pen.............and its a ''rock concert''............lol My son will love it...........lol

Need to get decent size pebble out the garden and put it in a mesh bag bag(think that would be the easiest long as its not orange !) pop in pebble and hand up outside for OH and its an adult version of a ''weather wally'' -know the one?...........If its wet its raining etc.

And I'm going to try and stitch letters.......very basic but nice enough to put on a stuff heart or something like that. Foster daughter got me a lovely one this year filled with wheat so it sits on the dresser.

Thats my bit of brainstorming for today.........lol:rotfl:
