MOT advisory query help please
Hi all,
It's a Citroen AX, P reg, and in 2009 had an advisory
"Corrosion to n/s/f chassis leg n/s/f inner wing "
But it wasn't there the next year. What would have been required to fix it and how will I spot it if it's still there?
Sorry, first time buying a car and no idea about them at all.

Probably welding?0

I would avoid any car that has suffered from corrosion, it may well have been repaired, but rust/corrosion will return, sooner or later.
Best advice is to get somebody that knows about cars to inspect any car that you are intending to buy.0 -
advisories are exactly that.. the tester at the time probably thought it best to "advise" of the corrosion.. it may of been fixed/covered up or may not of been that bad to warrant a fail or advisory this time roundSealed pot challenger # 10

It's a P reg AX, a bit of welding at that age isn't uncommon.
It could have been the opinion of one MOT to the next, it wasn't a fail, so it could have been a wire brush and some underseal.0 -
Thanks, just getting the car round for another look and hopefully will be able to get a look.
It's a cheap banger but I'd like it to last a year or two if possible0 -
Our N reg 106 cost less than £500 three years ago, and has cost next to nothing since, it's still running well.0

The prupose of advisories is to identify items that may need atention in the future. This gives you a chance to get it fixed before it becomes too bad, especially true in the case of corrosion - catching it early may mean nothing more than a quick clean up and fresh underseal is required (as mentioned above). Leave one more winter and it can soon become something that needs welding.
I used to run a classic car and the MOT guys would always point out any areas that had even a hint of rust for me (much easier to spot when car is on a 4 post lift) so I could then deal with it (waxoil/underseal) before the corrosion got to the stage of needing welding.0 -
What garage was it taken too? KwikFit are very fond of overstating the seriousness of wear & tear. The only safe way is to have the car taken to a garage and inspected; a good mechanic will also tell you with accuracy how much you should pay for the car.0

Advisories tend to be a pain with junior testers covering their backsides "just in case". Corrosion advisories are a sure thing on an older car because of the 90 day rule too.0

is this the car you had a HPI thread for?
if so do get someone mechanicly minded and a good eye to have a look over, test drive it thouroughly not a 2 min jobbie to the end of road and back and if it does feel right to you walk away.0
