help! lpg heating dilemma!

Hi,
We moved into a stone built house this June with LPG heating.
We are now at the stage where we want to start redecorating rooms.
My thoughts are to start replacing the traditional LPG fed radiators with electric radiators so we can start reducing our LPG consumption and eventually replace the LPG with electric.
My thought process is centred on the fact that the price of LPG has just gone up again, the boiler is very old and I cannot see it lasting plus we have to pay ground rent for the LPG tank and the issue of running out of gas (which we are nearly at because of our location and the snow this year).
What type of electric radiator would you suggest and is there a backing for the wall to stop heat going straight out into the garden?
Best wishes
