The average home is thought to have contents of £42000ish so you are almost certainly under insured. It looks like the esure website has caught you out as well...
With a watch of that value I would expect you to have a much higher contents sum insured than you have.
well time to double contents to £40,000 and get new valuation on watch as its a few months over 3 yrs for valuation purposes..0 -
While it is in your mind, it might be worth doing a proper check of exactly how much you need using one of the online calculators such as this one
http://www.legalandgeneral.com/home-insurance/contents-calculator/contents-calculator.html
It is also worth of doing a list of models and serial numbers of your electrical items and then email it to yourself (This then keeps a record of it out of the house in case of a large fire etc). If you can also email yourself scans of receipts this can also be helpful.
Another thing that is very helpful it to go around the house and either film each room or take photos of items especially jewellery. This helps Insurers in the event of a claim and the jewellers should it be an unusual item that you want remade. It is also very helpful to the police as if the item turns up (Often in another part of the country) they can often return it to you and importantly it can also help them secure a conviction if they have arrested someone. Again if possible email this to yourself or keep it away from your home.
I've dealt with people who have had very large claims and experienced a large fire in my own home, in these circumstances it is very difficult remembering everything you had. So keeping information on it can really help you remember and also assists the Insurers in settling the claim correctly.
When you get the watch valued, don't forget to get the jeweller to check the settings etc and to make a note that they have done this on the valuation. This can be a condition of some policies on high value items of jewellery.
Note if your have a claim with Esure and most other Insurers if they suspect you are under insured, they will ask you to fill out a form giving values for your contents to help them find if you're under insured or correctly insured.
Also note that it is best to factor in a few thousand pounds as a safety zone tp cover future purchases as insurers tend to increase contents sums insured at renewal by inflation this will not take into account future purchases. Obviously it's worth rechecking your sum insured every few years as our circumstances change over time.0 -

cheers mate sorted for little money..0 -
And don't forgot to increase the watch value every year if it's a new for old policy, regardles of the actual value to replace the most they'll pay is the price you put down, so if the replacement value has increased year on year, you'll lose out if you don't keep it updated.0

It's a good point, a good proportion of companies do increase the cover on specified items each year, but it is best to review it as in the last few years the value of gold has rocketed. This can mean you could lose a lot of money whether the specified items sum insured is automatically increased each year or stays static.
It's a very good idea to keep a check on the sum insured of specified items. It's quote possible if that if the watch is gold or platinum that if the last valuation was before the start of the recession that the value has increased by well over a thousand pounds.0 -
People tend to dramatically underestimate (in my experience)-
Clothes, carpets, curtains, CD/DVD/Book collections and sofas.
Clothes especially- for example I tend to go on the average of £3K per adult in the house as a rough guide, although it will depend on where you live.0 -
My girlfriend needs to get some contents insurance, I have been with Direct Line for years and although they paid out on a claim before it was far from a nice experience. .....
Thanks
I have Direct Line Home Insurance Plus. It gives far better cover and is not much more than standard.
I have had good experience when making a claim with DL. Paid up with no problems.
Previously, I had cover with Aviva and they were a nightmare to deal with."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
