People whose income qualifies them for income related ESA but who qualify on basis of contributions automatically get put on contribution based ESA.

People on contribution based ESA get less money and fewer benefits than those on Income Related ESA.

I humbly suggest that 12 months is probably sufficient for most people to sort their affairs out so that they can manage on the lower income.

Well on that basis, shouldn't income based WRAG ESA claimants have their benefit reduced to the assessment rate since the spiel is that they all should have found jobs after 1 year anyway. I don't believe the spiel so not actually suggesting it, but the lack of understanding on the effects of the 1 year limitation really annoys me.

BTW I'm ignoring dob im in.
Just in case you were wondering (some have)..... I'm a woman!

You obviously don't realise just how much more expensive it is being disabled e.g. people in receipt of contributory ESA are not eligible for free prescriptions etc etc

Also, I doubt that people who are members of this particular website could be described as profligate.

They can apply for help with healthcare costs by filling in the HC1 form if they have a low enough income though, then they'll get free prescriptions.

Me, too! Could it be a case of "I'm all right, Jack", do you think?

Hi, Actually you can get free prescriptions with Contributory ESA. I do. I filled in a form which was sent to me (sorry cant remember the name of the form but I phoned up the contact number for my ESA office)

Disablility Alliance are reporting that anyone already receiving ESA contrib.for a year in work related group will have their claim cease in April 2012

That will result in my wife and my income HALVING. We will lose our home because of this as our rent won't be covered and will have to live in a hostel to get on the social housing ladder. That's after teaching for 10 years, getting pneumonia and not getting better.

Get criticial health insurance because if you get ill this governement will not look after you!

If your income halves you should be able to get housing benefit.

Perhaps it might help to support one's claim if one arrived half dead, or one died during the assessment.

    Naw ...... :D

    - if you died on the way to the assessment you would be refused - failure to attend the assessment

    - if you died during the assessment you would be refused - failure to complete the assessment

    Hi AWindsor

Welcome to the forum! It may be worthwhile making an appointment to see your MP and explaining your case to them. Some Labour MPs are contesting the ESA time limit and they can always do with case studies to back up their arguments. However if your MP is Tory or Liberal you will be wasting your time.
  • Yes We would be entitled to full housing benefit but of course there is now a local allowance. Ours is £109 a week our rent is £120. We can make up the difference currently with ESA but when we don't get it we will have zero spare money.

My wife works part time to look after me. She gets £100 + £94 ESA so we will literally get half as much money.

The social housing waiting list in Leeds is 3 years unless you declare yourself homeless and go into a hostel.
