Blackberry Messenger question

Hi

My son had an existing contract sim which is 100 mins 500 text. he bought a blackberry handset with xmas money as he wanted to use the messenger with friends etc.

Now i have had the bbm £5 monthly added onto his account but have a question. Does he need a data allowance/plan to be able to use bbm??

I only ask as we thought it was just the £5 bb add on we needed and note that he had been charged for using messenger when we checked online.

  • Did you check when the start date was for the bb data plan to become active on the account, it may be as simple as this.

I think it does take 24 - 48 hours to update

ive added the data plan now for another £5. Must say that the first voda cs bloke I spoke to to add the bbm never said anything about it taking 24 - 48 hours to update. If this is the case then that explains the additional charge. If i dont need the data plan then I will ask voda to revert back to the orginal price plan and just the bbm add on

BBM is only 'free' because it works over the BlackBerry data plan which you're already paying for, so yes, you do need it! The other poster is right though in that adding this service can take up to 24 hours for the SIM to be updated; I would turn the phone off and on again to ensure that the settings are updated.

You will need to check that your son's internet connection is set up using the BlackBerry APN rather than WAP or otherwise. This can be checked under the Internet Settings section in the phone's menu.
