Locksmith advice please!!!

  • if the locksmith told her £103+ x on the phone before he attended and she agreed to this it seams pretty obvious that she should pay the price she agreed.

However if they said " no call out charge" , turn up at the house and then charge £103 + X for less than 5 minutes work I would be pretty annoyed. To me it would seem like they were simply disguising the call out charge under a different heading. £20 a minute seams rather extortionate charge for labour.

my neighbour locked herself out , called a locksmith and he came along took about 5 seconds to open the door and charged £80 , that was the fee , she got in the house , she accepted that this was the cost and paid up
  • remember that those 5 seconds to open the door took a lot of years to learn.

Indeed, this was after someone with a toolkit could not open the door, so he obviously did something to remedy the lock situation.

Well as a locksmith I would say that I hope he didn't just open the door the toddle off as there is obviously a problem with it that needs looking at and fixing!
As for the people who say that it only took 5 seconds blah blah blah I always say the same thing " Would you like me to upgrade your locks as these cheap ones are doing you no favours"

I get all your points, but I really don't think it is very :money:. Next time my neighbour and me included will probably think twice about calling them out and break a window to get in!!! (will be cheaper)!!

Breaking the window would be the cheapest option however there is still a doorlock not working. It would be very expensive having to break a window everytime you wanted to get in.:)

Look at it from the locksmiths point of view for goodness sake. The door didnt fix itself- you pair just hadnt realised it was jammed rather than broken.

Why should the locksmith frequently loss his own time and money to call outs in situations like yours?
