I know its not quite the same but I got locked in my house the other day, catch just wouldnt turn from the inside, somewhat embarrassing as I had to take a delivery through my lounge window much to the amusement of the delivery guy....Stupid thing is my OH came home from work to free me and door opened with the key fine. Guess the cold weather makes the locks sticky...
Not really sure though were you stand with the fee though....MFW 2020 #111 Offset Balance £69,394.80/ £69,595.11

My neighbour came over to my house because the lock on her front door wouldn't open. She had another neighbour go over with screwdrivers to try and get it open, but it did not work. So she came over to mine and called a locksmith. It said 'No call out charge' She was told the price. £103 + vat and parts. He came out and all he did was pull the handle down and the door opened. It had obviously righted itself! He still wanted £103 + vat!! She is now refusing to pay as he did no work on it. They are still sending her the bill. What does she do...pay up or what???:(
Here we go again, why do you think you shouldn't pay him ? you called him out, he came to you, opened the door and you don't want to pay him, seriously how dumb are you and your neighbour ?
If it goes to court YOU WILL LOSE, now grow up and pay the man :mad:0 -
I get all your points, but I really don't think it is very :money:. Next time my neighbour and me included will probably think twice about calling them out and break a window to get in!!! (will be cheaper)!! :mad:Sunday 23rd September 2007 I came to my senses and discovered fresh air!!:j

OP - sorry you feel like you've got a bit of stick, but just take a second to think about what would have happened if the job had taken much longer than the locksmith had anticipated? He had quoted you £103 plus VAT and would have had to stick to this charge. And you of course would have been very happy and not posted on here!
Trades people have to price on an average time and some you win/some you lose, so it all evens out.0 -
All I wanted was an unbiased positive legal opinion. My neighbour was going to pay but just found it unjustifiable for what he did!! If one went to a solicitor one would expect to do what is right!! So be it she has to pay. But the rudeness and nastiness on here is dissappointing. I have many MSE friends who do not post on here anymore because of the attitude of some people. Enough said, I think!!Sunday 23rd September 2007 I came to my senses and discovered fresh air!!:j

There's quite a few tradesmen on here who regard the 'punter' as fair game.0 -

There's quite a few tradesmen on here who regard the 'punter' as fair game.
There's also a few punters that think that tradesmen are fair game as well.
To actually expect to have a problem resolved with no charge is taking the pith.0
