Hot water feed to washing machine....

Options
Hello, was removing old machine in preparation for new arrival and noticed that water doesn't come out of the hot water feed, i know its not frozen and it hasn't been capped either.

I would have no idea how long its been like that either because the previous water feed hoses had been on the pipes for over 10 years.

Anyone any ideas?

Check the isolation valve, sometimes the levers on them turn but the ball valve doesnt thus it appears to be on when its off etc.
    Seen it loads of times.

If it is the isolation valve what would be the remedy? A new valve? Have tried a spot of WD40 on it to see if that frees it up.........any machine i've had in the past has had hot and cold inlets though the new one may be cold only, haven't taken delivery yet

Wait for your new arrival as it may just have a cold water feed to connect to it.

put a bucket underneath and start undoing the valve union.
you will soon find out if you need a new valve.

as above. nearly all new machines are cold fill only.
    Get some gorm.

Am pretty sure new machine just has a cold water feed so will cap the hot water feed off just to be on the safe side.

My next query is if there is a simple way to calculate the pressure coming out of the cold water feed? It seems quite high and am wondering if that could be the reason my last machine lasted less than 5 years.

I filled a 20 litre drum in 87 seconds, is there a way to calculate psi from that equation?

Maybe just opening the feed valve half way would be the easiest solution?
  • Yep, DH (who has a service engineering company, altho he is now retired) confirms that machines are cold fill only, nowadays.

Apparently detergents are activated by being heated up with the water :)
