    Were there any screws provided? Bear in mind with two hangars, there are four wall screws sharing the load so providing the plug is a nice tight fit, there screws don't have to be massive. Just make sure they are in tight with no 'slip'.

    Or if you've got a counter sink tool, you could increase the depth to take the bigger screw.

    Agree with Albert S apart from red plugs. I never use them for anything. If the brick is the slightest bit crumbly, they can end up rotating whereas brown plugs always seem to be more positive.
    Also agree that perhaps you need larger hangars or a smaller screw. Having said that, if you end up with a No 6 screw, red plugs might be more appropriate.
    All a bit contradictory really.

  • you could be right steve,
    depends on the brick TBH, although it can also depend on the make of plug, sometimes you can get a cheapish brown plug in a 6mm hole, start small and work up, deffo no bigger than 7mm though for a brown plug, or 5.5mm for a red one.
    and if it is thermalite, then another idea is needed, perhaps a #12 straight into the block.
