Tesco Mobile Coverage ?

I am with Vodafone. Coverage has been fine, plans are overpriced I feel, customer service has been ok but not great. i am at contract end almost so looking for new deal.

I want the HTC Wildfire. Tesco Mobile do a £25 pm 12 month contract for this phone with 500 mins, Unltd text and data.

I went through to Vodafone upgrades who couldnt match anywhere near (£30 pm for 18 mnths for less mins, 500mb data, same text). I went through to disconnection dept who were better - £25 for 18 month 300 mins, unltd text, 500 mb data. I asked him to match the tesco deal but he said he couldnt for this reason:

Tesco mobile make all of 1 pence profit as the offer it so cheap
The reason its cheap is that they have less priority on the network
This means that if there was high volume and I was making a call via tesco mobile and another better network was making a call at same time that my call would be cut off in favour of the other priority customer !

I was quite amazed by this as i have never heard of it and i doubted it was true. I believe Tesco mobile uses the 02 network so i couldnt see why coverage would be a problem. But having done some googling to review tesco mobile there are many people who report problems with getting no coverage or reception to make / receive calls.

Could there be a grain of truth in what Vodafone said?

What are other peoples experience of tesco mobile?

    Tesco do use the O2 Network so the coverage should be the same, and is in my experience.

    Ask your Vodafone person to show you evidence of what was suggested.

    I would hate to think they are lying

    EDIT - Tesco used to do the same deal for £15 a month, although the data is limited to 500 mb

    Shame the £15 deal is no longer avail. I called Tesco mobile and they said that it isnt true there is no priority on customers. They also said there is a 14 day cooling off period so if i wasnt happy with the phone / contract / coverage i could return and just pay for what i had used.

    am seriously considering giving tesco mobile a shot. Just fingers crossed they dont keep the priority up for the 1st 2 weeks then drop it - if its to be believed. Virgin media apparently do something similar on broadband bandwidth - but I know there are priorities set for internet. Not sure about mobile coverage

    Broadband is completely different
  • If the mast you was connected to was full and someone made an emergency call then calls would be dropped in favour for the person to make the call...

    Apart from that nope...
