Housing Benefit payment stop at Christmas?

My housing benefit payment is due today. It is not in my bank though. I spoke to a friend who works for the Council and she says Housing Benefit payments in our borough usually arrive a day or two late over Christmas period. Why should that be though - doesn't make sense does it? Christmas Day and Boxing Day fell on the weekend so why would it affect Housing Benefit payment?
In the past when my Housing Benefit has been due on a Bank Holiday I've noticed that it's always been paid a day late.

Today and tomorrow (Mon27/Tue28) are bank holidays so you'll probably get it on Weds.0

I think what you mean is that DWP is counting them as Bank Holidays. 27th and 28th December are not officially Bank Holidays in the UK. The banks are not shut. Therefore I do not see why a payment due in my bank account today would be held up (as presumably they'd have remitted it last week, before Christmas anyway?). I'm really confused!0

I think you will find that the bank branches are closed until wednesday morning and the banks are not processing any transactions on mon/tues.
If your normal payment date is monday then this week the money should be in your account on wednesday.
What the council should have done was process your payment 2 days earlier so that you were in receipt of it on Christmas Eve (this being the nearest bank working day to your payment date).Freebies Received: Supersavvyme bag, Olay moisturiser, Barbara Daly/Tesco Mascara, Seeds of Change Choccie, Yorkshire Tea Kenyan teabags, Tesco mobile sim cards x 2.
Won: Yorkshire Tea goodie box0 -
