I use x-o for some trades. Whilst their platform is quite limited and basic, the service seems fine.

I have my HB Markets accout, but am thinking of openinng another one, probably with X-O or SVS, so summarised their differences in charges below. None of them have Annual, Maintenance, Inactivity, or Trans-in fees:

    HB Markets
    Dealing £8, Trans-out £16, ISA Closure £0

    X-O
    Dealing £5.95, Trans-out £15, ISA Closure £50

    SVS
    Dealing £5.75, Trans-out £15, ISA Closure £0
£1 dealing charge for the first 30 days

Based purely on figures only, SVS is probably the winner here, but any of them should be a bargain compared to bigger ones!

Interesting - the same guy, John Brennan, who sold Hoodless Brennan (and us the customers) to the far more expensive TD Waterhouse in 2009 and re-started HB Markets in 2012, seems to be the director again here. Trading helpdesk address is the same as HB Markets.

Charges are the same as HB Markets, except that dealing is £6 only.

Aletank, have you found any other positives or negatives?
  • Just to add that HB Markets and Traders Own charge 25p-£1 for receiving dividend per line of stock. It's a small amount, but if you have 20 stocks paying dividends twice a year then that could add up to £40 a year.

I'm happy with HB Markets but may open svs or x-o as well, as I am thinking of stocking up 10-20 high yield shares in the near future!

I have bought 7 stocks through them, I've just received a £9.90 dividend and they have took 99p
I've had no problems with them.

I use HL for my share ISA in which I hold funds and investment trusts. They are rock solid and I have no complaints.

For shares over and above my isa allocation I have used both x-o and svssecurities for two years. They are both easy to use and cheaper than HL. Again I have no complaints but then I am very much an amateur. neither charge a platform fee or charge for dividend dividend payouts.

I have just spotted sharedealactive is also run by Jarvis - the same people who run x-o but its more expensive at £9.50 a deal. The Jarvis parent site suggests that the second one also allows international dealing and phone dealing for the same price. So I guess x-o is cheaper provided you are content to limit yourself to UK stock?

My other reason for running hl, x-0, and svs is because since the last crash I'm paranoid about not having too much holed up in one organisation - I think 48K is the max covered by the FSCS.

Anyone know why Hoodless Brennan have re-opened their execution only service?

Just wondering, as they previously closed down the service stating they couldn't make enough money from it. However, they've now re-opened the exact same service with the exact same charges.

Wonder how they intend to make money from it this time around? Would like to transfer an ISA to them, but slightly apprehensive..

Can anyone comment on how competitive their online quotes are? .
