please stop giving your dog those treats from the leftovers..

i have a ten years old dog jake and he is diabetic and needs insulin injections every day by me,
Now sit back and think how much this would disrupt your life with weekends away and holidays.i also have to give him a jab at 10am so what would you do if you worked?

all this is because we fed him crap treats and leftover titbits off our dinner plates...dont do it ,,it costs us £60PM and the stress of getting his sugar levels are a nightmare...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

    Thanks for that wisdom. Not.

Your poor dog is suffering because you fed it too many tit bits, and now your post is almost having a go at all of us that may do it? Plus not once did you mention your dogs suffering in all of this, just your financial costs and how much its disrupting your life!

My dog is blind and deaf, if he wants a biscuit i give him one. He's 13/14 and we've fed him properly throughout his life.

he does not suffer as he is on insulin and i regulate it. but if he was deaf and blind i might have to think again...

Whilst I sympathise with the poor dog I need to point out it has nothing to do with what you fed him. It is due to the amount of food you fed him and the exercise he had. You could have fed him 10kg of top brand dog food and it would have had the same effect.

I'm assume type 2 diabetes in dogs is the same as in humans, if so it's not always due to being overweight.
Anyway, you can feed dogs loads of treats and leftovers and still not make them overweight, just reduce their normal food a bit of you give them leftovers that day.
  • Basically it is down to the owner not the dog in this matter. Do you not think if you had fed your dog less then it wouldn't have this problem? Also do you not think that your dog can find this stressful? You mention your stress but what about your dog?

For me having lost a dog recently at the tender age of 4 due to an illness £60 would of been a small price to pay to keep my beloved dog alive and have a decent quality of life.

  • Grrrr....I have a dog with diabetes, who is exercised frequently and NOT overweight - she is taken to the vets each year to be checked... and is always said to be fit, well within weight etc. Please check your facts people....It is NOT always down to the owner.../GRRR
  • Diabetes can be different for each dog as to how they get it whether it is just something they end up getting or whether it is down to poor diet and lack of exercise. But as the initial poster pretty much blames the dog and forking out money that they seem begrudged to do it doesn't paint a good picture of the owner - they have to take some responsibility!

I don't get why people are having a go at the op

he's come on here to warn us of the dangers of giving our pets table scraps ..

I don't see where he blames the dog at all .. and good on him for forking out the £60 per month, a lot of people would of had the dog put down

Maybe the op should of said nothing, then you could of all carried on spoiling your dogs with left over turkey and risking their health *shrugs*
A heap big thank you to everyone who posts the comps, your all stars!

Proud to of never used or felt the need to use a chain of any sorts on a puppy
  • For a start a lot of dogs manage just fine with left over meat off plates but provided that they have plenty of exercise so it doesn't risk all dogs lives. My two dogs reguarly have left over meat and veg but are then exercised everyday for a long time and are in great health.

End of the day the OP didn't say anything about the dog's wellbeing other than having diabetes just more concern about the money being paid and having a jab everyday. They never mentioned that maybe the dog is stressed with it all.

Not all owners risk their dogs lives by giving them titbits. You only start to risk their lives when they are overfed and under exercised.
