Living in the USA for 6 months

Hi all. I have a blackberry and plan to use it to BBM people back home whilst out in the states.
I've search verizonwireless, t-mobile websites in the US and I don't see a PAYG sort of system that I could "topup" for internet usage whilst I'm out there.
Has anyone had any experience of living out there for a while and whether they do a PAYG sort of system similar to here?
Many Thanks

well to start you can only use the GSM carriers so that limits you to t mobile and AT&T, (verizon, sprint, and I think virgin mobile in the US all use CDMA and is 100% different to GSM)0

I don't know about Blackberry services, but Pay and Go data is available. Be aware that data is more expensive in the US.0

read this http://paygsimwithdata.wikia.com/wiki/USA
expensive is an understatement
AT&T: $20 for 100MB that's £13! here in the UK you get 1GB for £50 -
thanks for the information guys. If the data is expensive I'll be sure to only use it at wifi hotspots. As for BBM I think it is really small data files so that shouldnt work out too expensive.0

t-mobile usa do unlimited data on a daily rate of $1.49, cheaper than at&t0

I use T-mobile when I'm over there.
Full details of all their pre-paid plans are here:
(Sorry it wont let me post the link as a new user)
I normally use the $50/month one, which gives unlimited texts, calls and 100MB internet.0
