When you have sent a MED4 in you dont normally have to send any more sick notes in. They have obviously got the MED4.

I wouldnt be so sure that they arent going to call you in for a medical as yet - sometimes it can take several weeks - dont celebrate just yet - give it another couple of weeks before you do!

I would have thought that they will send a letter out to say that you have met the requirements of the pCA and the benefit will continue - but not sure!

  • People who have been on ib for many years and have not had to send in sick notes from their doctor for a long time, are still sent ib50s and often have to attend medicals if required, unless they are exempt.

An example -person on ib since 1993,sent ib50 early july, returned it the next week, called for medical ,going next week! Will probably hear the outcome in jan.total of six months start to finish!!.This is not a one off either.

Just telephoned to clarify the situation. I no longer have to send in sick notes because my doctor gave me a Med4 which covers me "until further notice". However, I may be called before the board or for a medical until the conditions of the PCA have been met.

I'm so relieved, not having to send anymore sick notes is a bonus as when you have Epstein barre the last thing you feel like doing it sitting in a doctors waiting room for 2+ hours (They do have an appointment system at our local surgery but they never seem to stick to it) Good luck when you have your medical Helen!!

Dont know when I will be called in for a medical - never know a miracle may happen and I wont be - but things never go smoothly for me!

Please be advised that IB50s are sometimes sent out in error. If you believe that you are in an exempt group then I would strongly suggest that you challenge the reason for sending you an IB50 to fill out.
What are the exempt groups? Thanks.

To be exempt the PCA you need to fall into one of these groups:

People who get Disability Living Allowance higher rate care component or constant Attendance Allowance or who have an assessment of 80% for the purposes of a Severe Disablement Allowance or Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

    People who are terminally ill.

    People with these conditions:

    a severe mental illness

    tetraplegia

paraplegia or uncontrollable involuntary movements of ataxia

    persistent vegetative state

    registered as blind

    a severe learning disability

severe and progressive neurological or muscle wasting disease

active and progressive forms of inflammatory polyarthritis

progressive or severe impairment of cardio respiratory function

severe paralysis on one side of the body

    impairment of the brain/nervous system

severe and progressive immune deficiency state

a severe mental illness which severely and adversely affects mood or behavior and which severely restricts social functioning or awareness of immediate environment
