OR...does W7 suffer the same local-only issues that vista suffers from?? If so, then going into network properties and de-selecting ipV6 may well help......

Im using my laptop which is connected to the same router, my son as a tower in his bedroom and this works no problem with a buffalo dongle, the pasword we are putting in is right,we are going to try some of these suggestions tomorrow as its getting abit late now. Hopefully we can get it working if not i will have to take it back to the shop Tuesday and let them sort it out. Many thanx everyone thats offered advice.

Try the one in post 10 by victor2. This is the best one to get some info - try it too with a machine which you know works on the internet - the differences will give more clues.

Tried putting the ethernet cable straight in to laptop but still no joy, and then couldnt get the cable backout, then my son suggested trying the buffalo dongle in the laptop, still no good that too got stuck in the usb port,by this time we had, had enough.Took the laptop back to the shopand the tech guys had a look, i dont know if it was a diagnostics machine but he came back after about 10 minutes and straight away said they had no more in stock so my son went and picked another one, got it home and hes just tried to connect, lo and behold straight on with a wireless connection. :jAgain thanx to all that offered advice. Happy New Year one and all:beer::beer:

A happy ending, but note... Try to avoid buying computers from PC World, and definitely avoid talking to the Tech Guys, they usually break things more than fix them...
Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...
