I'm going to sharm next month, you can get excursions to Cairo and Luxor etc from there, and as most of the hotels are all inclusive just under £700 per person has got us a week in a 5* thomson in a hotel with really good reviews"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring."0

Keep in mind it will be an Egyptian 5-star - more like 4-star in Europe if your're lucky and 3 if you're not.0

I really wouldn't recommend Dahab unless a) you fully intend to stay in your hotel for the duration of your holiday, except for organised trips or b) you intend to spend your holiday diving.
I stayed in Dahab for 10 days this year and it was not pleasant at all. The town itself is very dirty with rubbish all over the streets and small 'beach' areas and you will be hasled everywhere you go (although I do understand it is like this through the Egyptian towns). The diving was out of this world however!

the excursions from the red sea to luxor and cairo are very long - personally I would look at a two centre if you want both or just decide if it's a cultural or beach holiday that you want - also I echo what bcl999 says - the hotel ratings are not the same as in other places - so do your research - we stayed in the movenpick and it was vile but the intercontinental was amazing so do read a lot and also realize that the AI's in Egypt are not like AI's in other countries
I have been to egypt 6 times and I love luxor, it has so much to see and do and is a great place to base your trip - you could look at maybe doing a 3 night stay in cairo and then going to luxor and doing a cruise to aswan - that way you get to chill out, see the sights and go on a cruise - you don't get the beach but you need to weigh up if you are actually going to spend any time on the beach or just sit around a pool - if it's the latter then you can do this in luxor and/or on the cruise0 -
We went to sharm through first choice stayed at the holiday village about 2 christmases ago it was lovely stayed right on the beach
we did not like narma bay though went in a taxi and could not wait to get back to the hotel0 -
We are also looking at Egypt just now, we will go to Sharm. I've seen a few hotels I like. Maybe someone will know them and might even be able to offer some advice. Maybe these would also be of interest to OP, if considering Sharm.
Coral Resort
Sierra
Club Magic Life
Baron Palms
Reef Oasis Blue Bay
We're seriously considering Club Magic Life at £550ish each. Reef Oasis looks fab, but is closer to £700 for the week each.0 -
It is right what everyone has said about how hot it would be in June - it was 38 deg C in Luxor in November! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

It is very very hot but it's a dry heat which is much more bearable than humid heat IMO - last time we were there was in august and it was scorching every day and it was lovely0

Hi,
I would highly recommend Taba Heights, Marriot hotel is the best and they have got the cleanest beach compared to Hyatt and Sofitel, if you want to see the Pyramids frm there you can fly from there or travel by train which was abt 10 hours i think. You can see St Katherines monastry, and Moses burning bush, and climb the mountain where Moses got the ten commandments, then go across to Petra (Jordan) by boat and see the Treasury which was in the Indiana Jones movies. You can do quad biking through the mountains, my friend did diving and it was amazing the different types of fishes and the clear water.
Wherever you decide to go you will have a great time i have been to Egypt a few times and always have a great trip there.
take care

Hi
We stayed at the Reef Oasis in Sharm 2 years ago and had a fantastic time there in August!!!!. We went all-inclusive with Thomson and we arranged our own trip to Cairo for 3 days, which cost us about £300 for the 4 of us, including flights, tour guide for 3 days, excursions to the Pyramids, Saquara, and Cairo Museum and sight seeing round Cairo Bazaar. We flew with Egyptair, Tap in Egypt as home destination, rather the UK as u will be flying from Sharm (if u go there), flights were great. We stayed BB and evening meal for 2 nights. I would say that drinks including alcohol are very expensive in Cairo. We tended to visit macDonald's for drinks after seeing the Pyramids, as its cheap and u get loads for your money. Toilets are clean etc.
I would check out Trip advisor, as that is where I got most of my information from, when we went.
I would add that we went to Luxor in August last year and had a fabulous time. You just have to time visiting places right. The old adage of keep out of the sun between 11am and 3pm is true.
Have a great time. If you need any more information, the just pm me. :beer:0
