the beach resorts around the red sea are some distance from any of the sites but you can go to climb mount Sinai, to to petra and into Israel and the dead sea from places like taba
if you want sights then base yourself somewhere like luxor as it has so much to see - if you still want to have the two then look for a twin centre holiday where you stay in luxor and then go to the beach - remember though that luxor is still some way away from cairo where the pyramids are - but to base yourself in cairo for the first week would mean missing everything that luxor has to offer0 -
Do you like really hot weather? Both Luxor & Red Sea area could be nudging 40C in June.0

Be sure you want to do the pyramids. They are supposed to be a complete let down. I know 3 different people who went. None said it was worth the effort.0

nile cruise, luxor. cruise and stay
and stay in the sheraton, or the old winter palace. Better than the beach resorts in my opinion.0 -

The pyramids were not a let down for me, they are magnificent. I went to see them 7 years ago and will be going to see them again this year.0 -
We enjoyed the Pyramids, but they are not as massive as you imagine. Maybe the disappointment lies in the fact you can just go straight up to them, no restrictions or anything. I would not have missed seeing them, absolutely loved lapping up the atmosphere there. I would suggest staying in Cairo for a weekend, you have to see the museum too (allow 4 hours +), and there are bazaars and all sorts like that, Cairo itself is an experience!
We stayed in a lovely place called El Gouna, very relaxing after Cairo and a cruise! Would recommend it to anyone who is after relaxation. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
You will fry if you go there in June, think about later in the year, like September.
As others have said, be really sure you want to see the pyramids. Best thing to do with Cairo is go there, see the pyramids and museum then leave. Saw the pyramids many years ago and was stunned by them. In no way was I interested in history, but they just blew me away. I don't suppose it has changed much, so be prepared to be harassed by locals wanting to give you a camel ride by the pyramids. Find out the going rate and have the cash ready. You can't go there without the complete experience.
After that, get on a plane and head for a break on the beach, if you can take the heat. I did a one week Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan. Great to have your hotel room move with you, but did get "templeitus" after seeing sooo many temples. Valley of The Kings is worth a visit if you can get to Luxor.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I too thought the Pyramids were something not to miss and I am glad that I saw them. Having said that, having seen them I would not be bothered if I never saw them again.
The Egyptian Museum in Cairo was very, very interesting and I could have spent many hours there and will definitely visit again. If you do go there, try not to go with an organised tour because I felt rushed and would have liked to spend more time looking at the things that were really interesting to me rather that what the tour guide thought I would/should be interested in (if that makes sense!)
Luxor also has the wow factor but I do have to say that there are only so many temples you can look at before you become, well, frankly bored with them - sorry! Also as a previous poster says it will be hot in Luxor June time.
If it will not tire you too much, try a little mix and match and maybe end up somewhere by the beach for a few days relaxation.
Whatever you decide to do, enjoy it.0 -
