SKy closing down TV channels

"Oh and has anyone had a letter saying that their Sky subs will be rising with the VAT in January? I ask because I haven't (and I don't get the mag so I don't get the letter that comes with) and while they didn't decrease it when the VAT decreased 2 years ago I don't believe they won't use this as an opportunity to put up prices."
have a look at your account on the tv theres a message for you to tell you about the increaseOfficial DFW Nerd Club Member #1340 :: Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
"BSkyB looks to grow its presence in quizzes and gameshows"
Give me strength! I got as far as this and lost the will to live.
So we know what sky are going to do but what will VM be putting in place of these channels? More cooking and makeover shows I bet.0 -
Programming will be re-deployed to other channels;the Living TV channels will apparently receive a 25% boost to programming budget.

As I see it, there's every chance that Sky will derive better value from the assets they've bought, and closing a few of the less valuable channels is only a part of the plans.
Getting Virgin One (Channel One) off Freeview is the main reason why Sky are closing it and moving the prime shows to the "pay" group, probably to be replaced on Freeview with a game/quiz show channel or Sky 3 plus something.0 -
If Murdoch is involved you know for certain that it will only get worse and cost more.0

Same here,I have no interest in games & quiz shows apart from Question Of Sport & Mastermind at all.The is too much of that !!!! on TV & as for shows like 'Strictly come Chav'...dont go there!!:mad:0 -
Shame about Bravo.
In the summer they said they had purchased the rights to the remake of Hawaii-Five-O and would be showing it shortly after it aired in the US. As I had just been to Hawaii and heard about the different filming locations I was looking forward to seeing it. Then all went quiet and no more was mentioned about it. I guess with the closure of Bravo they had second thoughts about paying for it?
So as a non- HD Sky viewer I lose Channel One and Bravo and gain what? Assume Sky Atlantic HD will only work if you pay SKY another £10 per month for HD.
Still, I expect Sky will write to me this month and tell me my monthly subscription cost has gone down as they are taking away two of my channels?:rotfl:0 -

This is exactly my point. I am a Virgin Media customer so there is no chance of me getting access to this new Sky channel, not that I would want it anyway.0 -
TBH,The TV schedule on all the channels over crimbo has been dire! (Apart from a few movies on Sky & a whole day of Stargate Universe...) & I can see it getting worse.I was annoyed and confused when Sky told us they had the new series' of Bones and Lie to Me "just days after the US" and then stopped showing them after episode 4
I know what you mean..FX was showing NCIS Series 8 & then stopped!! On looking at FX website,it's returning in Feburary..Not to mention over the past few weeks up until about two weeks ago,FX were showing 'The Walking Dead' & now it's back on as repeats!!0 -
Sky's press release indicates that there will be an SD version of "Sky Atlantic" on Sky channel 108 and that:So as a non- HD Sky viewer I lose Channel One and Bravo and gain what? Assume Sky Atlantic HD will only work if you pay SKY another £10 per month for HD.
http://corporate.sky.com/media/press_releases/2010/Sky_confirms_strengthened_line_up.htmSky1, Sky Living and Sky Atlantic will all be available to all existing Sky customers at no extra charge, and are available as part of Sky’s basic subscription package, which starts from as little as £19 a month.0 -

AFAIK, The Walking Dead Season 1 is only 6 episodes.
Most of the the mainstream American programmes have a winter break, so Sky have to follow suit. That's why House, NCIS LA, Lie To Me, Stargate Universe and Fringe have all stopped at the moment. Sky were running these shows around a week or so behind the US.
I know Bones started a few weeks behind the US, so I don't know where Sky are at on that.Dave. :wave:0
