Probably nothing wrong with the hob. Put the fault down to "finger trouble" due to a cook who had been standing too near to the sherry bottle.:rotfl:
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Was the hob working OK with the oven off though? When you said 'Xmas dinner', my immediate thought was that that is the one day in the year when you probably have every ring on high and both ovens as well, so what rating is the circuit supplying the cooker, and is is adequate under full load for that model?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

1 oven on, the main one & I had 2 rings on & was trying to turn on the 3rd ring when it happened.

I "think" its 45 amps, does that sound right?

I cut the electric & tried to turn the rings on (after the problem), the oven wasn't on then, but the rings wouldn't come on. But the oven would.

What's the power rating of the cooker (in the manual or marked on the rear/side plate), what is the circuit rating (marked on your CU-the cooker should be on a dedicated circuit), what is the cable size?
