  • Next Year,I WILL NOT cook the turkey giblets inside the turkey for 3.5hrs...

1st time in years ive bought a full turkey(always buy a turkey crown)..defrosted it,and removed a bag of something from its innards when checking it was properly defrosted, covered it in streaky bacon, stuck a big onion inside it and baked for 3.5hrs...didnt find the other plastic bag until around 1hour after dinner when i was plating up the remainder to go in the fridge..I dunno why my bird had 2 bags of giblets cos i definately removed 1 bag before cooking.
decided not to tell the family this one.;)

Instead of serving to table I shall do it carvery style and load the meat onto everyone's plate as they file past. They can then help themselves to trimmings and veg. Hopefully it will be quicker and the food will be warmer.

:rotfl::rotfl:They always have two bags of giblets do turkeys, one each end of the cavity.

You do think they would put a sticker on the outside tho, considering quite a few people make the same mistake, it would make sense wouldn't it?

Make 10 times as much elderflower champagne in the summer because it was a huge hit! I forgot about it in a coolbox in the garden and hadn't really thought it would be any good. But, I spotted it when I went to throw out a bottle of champagne that had turned and rather than go without a bit of fizz I thought we'd give it a try. Splendid stuff, fairly alcoholic and not too dry :)

Anyway, I nearly made an !!!!-up of the gravy because I was half-cut and put too much flour in so it became quite solid, nothing some water and added stock couldn't fix and it also means we've got enough left over to go with our home-made chicken and chips tomorrow ;)

This reminded me... I did this too after hitting the fizz while cooking today, but with the Yorkie puds, didn't measure the flour, did it by eye and put in too much - they came out flat and cakey. :o Still edible though and the dog enjoyed the bits I put into his Xmas dinner!

Frugal, I feel your pain, no kids to harrass me but my mum and various other relatives drive me up the wall a bit, many a time I have thought how lovely it would be to escape for Xmas and not have to deal with the hassle, one of these days I'll do it!

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. :)

We have come to the conclusion that we are going to have our Christmas meal on Christmas Eve from now on, we are not a particluarly "foodie" family, and have decided that Christmas Lunch is a disruption to our day!
