Topaz was my favourite Avon perfume - still pops up occasionally in clearance leaflets - they must have a very small stock of the stuff deep in their warehouses ;) - I also liked Wishing.

Apple Blossom and Heaven Scent (there's a cheapie version now but not as nice) both by Helena Rubinstein
    Freesia by Yardley
    and 4711

My sister was an Avon rep and I remember all of those little sample bottles. She liked one called Somewhere? I think? Gosh that brings back memories, wasn' there one called Moonlight? They always did lovely bottles apparently they are collectors items these days.

Old-fashioned hardware shops are what we're very short of in this neck of the woods. I've just had a look on ebay and looking at the prices on there I reckon I don't need one that badly.

They have them on Amazon for £3.75 including delivery - is that acceptable? You can see them here. HTH.

Well done ChocClare.:j That's much posher than the one I have. Mine just has a bent metal handle that's stored inside it when not in use. I think it's well worth it when I think how many burnt pans I got before buying mine.:T Might treat myself to a new one...

BitterAndTwisted I have seen these simmer thingies in the Kleeneeze catalogue. If you have one of these or even go on their web site I am sure they aren't that dear, well cheaper than Ebay or Lakeland that is..lol

Has anyone else got a feather duster? I inherited mine from my dad and it's great for getting cobwebs and dusting light fittings.

Oooh I've got two Ostrich Feather dusters, a long handled one and a short handled one :) I use them all the time, although I do have to fight the cat for them as he loves the feathers..lol

And I absolutely loved the those bottles of 4711. I remember my mum used to have several of those bottles, and I even found an empty one when I was clearing her stuff out after she died. And yes the smell was still there, a bit faint and slightly insipid but definately there.. :D

:) Anyone liking traditional patchwork style bedspreads and pillow shams. They're featured in Aldi's April 1st email newsletter. In different colours and sizes starting at £14.99. Not sure if this is where to post it but thought that 'old fashioned' fans might like them...:o

I'm desperate to get a table cloth that is big enough for our table. It's 6-9 feet long and 3 feet wide. Any ideas?

You could make your own from a length of fabric.

My dining-room table is square - 60 inches along each side. I can't even find fabric wide enough to make a tablecloth for it, never mind an actual tablecloth. At the minute it's got a king-size duvet cover on it, because nothing else will fit :-|

What a good idea to use a duvet cover, I'm sure that there are lots of designs to choose from. :T
Had you thought of using a double flat sheet, which would be 90x100 inches? They are also available in lots of plain colours? :)
