I clearly remember wearing a liberty bodice over my vest in the winter and I am 55. Anyone younger remember them??
I am 52 and the memory of begging my mother not to make me wear them lives with me still!People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

You didn't happen to get the 'camphorated oil' rubbed on the chest, treatment as well, did you? I hated having to go to school stinking of that stuff when I had a cough/cold0 -
I'm 48 and I wore one over my vest in winter, until I was about 6 years old

You were lucky, I got the cod-liver oil every day (I was bone-thin as a child) plus paraffin emulsion every Friday evening "just in case".0

When I was little (in the early 80s) my mum went through a phase of making us have a spoonful of cod liver oil and malt every morning. It's the most disgusting stuff ever invented (I like malt extract, but the cod liver oil one is HORRIBLE) and it still makes me gag thinking about it.
As for the other things, I love my pinny and I wouldn't be without it. It's saved many a top from stains. I also love tablecloths and old-fashioned table runners, I've got quite a few and pretty much every table in the house has got a cloth on it. I bought a red gingham tablecloth for my dining table for Christmas and put an old cutwork tea-cloth over it and it looks so pretty it's still on there now, with a red glass cakestand filled with apples in the centreI love getting my spray starch out and getting it all crease free and crisp

ooh what about glass trifle bowls and fruit bowls? My mum has both (though doesn't use them these days)! I have a fairly modern stainless steel fruit bowl. I think I bought it in my early teens (strange thing for a teenager to buy) because I thought the little cutouts round the sides -a man, a women, a house & a tree, were cute!
Matching salt and pepper pots (or grinders/mills if you prefer)! I just replaced mine even though I rarely season at the table!
Ooh and what about shopping trolleys and wicker shopping baskets! And baskets for your bike!
My mum and I both have shopping trolleys - been using them for years (and gone through several each) - since I realized how much better than ending up with orangutan arms they really are!
I bought us both baskets for our bikes last year too. My mum has panniers, but a basket is useful for your handbag, helmet when you're not wearing it (if you wear one in the first place) and shopping too!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
We used to get a spoon of oil every day - I'm not sure, but I think it was castor oil. Yuck. I remember hiding hoping that they would forget I hadn't had it! :rotfl:0

I am embarrassed to admit I don't own any table spoons or soup spoons (may have to ask my mum for her spares) as cheap cutlery sets never come with them.
I don't really do table cloths or table runners. I got myself a nice set of glass "place mats" and that's good enough for me, I like a minimal table (less to clean up)! I do have a few sets of coasters for my coffee table (only really use one set these days). Another think I dislike is mismatched coasters and the thick board type ones, mine are the sort of saucer shaped ones.
On a tangent anyone else like me who has a thing about matching cutlery and crockery? I have 2 sets of cutlery and can't stand it if I get a knife from one and fork from the other! And if people are coming round for a meal it all has to match! Nothing fancy in my cupboards, but a few different sets of plates, mugs, bowl and glasses at least!
Actually I'm always amazed at how much kitchen stuff I own (and at least more than half of it gets regularly used so I don't have to feel so bad)!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

I have wanted one ever since but alas live in a modern house nowWe used to have one when I was a child. A friend of mine has one in her kitchen. Well actually she has two - one for the washing and the other has her pans hanging from it. If I ever get my own home I'd love one.
I live in a flat in the city now, & one of the first things I did was get an airer, it has six 7-foot spars, so will take two washing loads, a lot more eco-friendly than a tumble-dryer :T
PS ... for anyone who's looking to get one here's where I got mine Cast In Style starting from 4 spar 3-foot models, & they have lots of other 'old-fashioned' things too, boot scrapers etc0 -
I remember the liberty bodice and I am 56 and the virol malt extract and also on a friday the syrup of figs we were made to have - yuk. Why did we survive at all I ask myself?Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
