What phones can I use a 3 sim card in?

I am on contract with 3 and whilst I am happy with my contract I hate my phone, my obvious solution is to buy a 3 payg phone and use that but they are pricey and I see much better prices for just the phone I want elsewhere, do any other phones work with a 3 sim card other than ones bought directly from 3?, if not is there a way round this? I have never had a problem like this before so this is all new to me so any other bright ideas would be welcome:)

Please dont suggest I try to get used to the phone I have, I had a thread on here about it recently and despite great advice and suggestions I still hate it just as much as before:)

any phone that has 3G can be used on 3 mobile, of which there are loads of all price points, new and used.

obviously the phone will need to be unlocked (or locked to 3 mobile), or you can buy it sim free from the start.

    what phone you looking at?

I'm looking at the Blackberry Bold but I am open to suggestions as long as it has a qwerty keypad that is not touch screen and it needs to have a decent camera, they unlock phones in my local shop for £10, as I said this is all new to me, would a new phone need to be unlocked to take my sim? car phone warehouse are selling the bb curve for £125 sim free on three its £209 payg am I right in saying that if I buy a phone with no sim it will support any sim? Thanks for the reply and any help:)

yep if it is locked to a network other than 3 you will need to unlock it, most of the time when you buy phones from CPW they come unlocked so should accept any sim.

but for 3 mobile the phone has to be 3G phone (otherwise they can cut you off), something like the BlackBerry Curve 8520 (£130) is not a 3G phone whereas the BlackBerry Curve 9300 is (£209 at 3 mobile £199 at CPW so if it needed to be unlocked they are they work out the same price)

also to note you will need a blackberry addon to use the BB services if it isn't already on your contract (think it's an extra £5 a month)

other possible phones are say the nokia E5, E63 or E71 all with full QWERTY keyboard, they are good phones but they are not a blackberry, although nokias do have very good cameras

  • Have a look on Expansys, I was looking at a 9780, which they've just knocked £40 off, and much cheaper than CPW.
