My guess is that HMV ended it early because there was an error with the code and people were abusing it. Someone found out that the code could be used against an Xbox 360 bundle that they had on offer. The code was only meant to work against software. Lots of people jumped on the offer before HMV caught on to it and stopped issuing the code.

I missed the 20% promo and now I've managed to miss the 15% one... I've got a big basket of xmas presents I need to buy at hmv, do you think I should be patient and wait for another offer, or are hmv unlikely to run another one anytime soon?

They probably will run another one soon, since this is the most competitive time of the year for gifts. But now I've said that, I've probably jinxed it!

Tried to use the code today, and went to the irect link page it basically states that the code is for very specific people and if anyone requests the code using a hotmail etc account then they wont be sent a code!!
