sound in radiators, pump constantly on?

I found this 'test' on another forum and have just carried it out.

"Assuming that the system is wired correctly, here’s one test you could try. With the system running observe the boiler on light fitted to the boiler control panel. It should be lit. Switch off the heating and hot water and the lamp should go out within a few seconds. This shows that the external system controls are switching off OK. When this light goes out it will start the pump overrun cycle which runs the pump for about 8 minutes. If the pump continues to run after this time suspect the boiler PCB.

If the boiler on lamp remains lit when the heating and hot water is switched off the fault is with the external controls such as motorised valve microswitch(es) or cylinder thermostat depending whether you have a Y or S plan."

Having just done this, the boiler light went out immediately, suggesting it IS the pcb at fault.

Does this sound right to you guys?

Do you have a danfoss zone valve? It will be a white square box on the pipe work near the immersion tank/pump.

I have had a couple of customers call with exactly the same problem as you are describing. We looked at new PCB's, new pumps, but in the end it was the zone valve playing up which caused the pump to come on at all times of the day and night.

Never seen it with any other make of zone valve, just the danfoss ones.

Hmm, yes, your boiler. Taking on board the comment about Honeywell plans I would go with Aquatronixjenny's question, but more generally do you have a divertor valve or a zone valve?

Aqua: Hi. I can't see anything with Danfoss on it. There is a white box with Honeywell on the cylinder tank with temperature controls on it. There is a metal box on some pipework with Honeywell on it. There is a white box with Honeywell and 240v on it. There is what I presume to be the pump (red) with a black box with I II III on it. (You can probably tell by now that I don't know what these are:o).

I suggest you google for images of these items or you google for whatever info you find on the boxes and identify them. Otherwise it is like playing darts by telephone, with a blind man as your thrower.

Found out that one of the boxes is a Honeywell 3 position Divertor Valve if that helps

(your reply made me think of 'Bernie the Bolt', dvardy:) - I'm showing my age now!)
