I've bought streaky bacon to fancy up the turkey, gonna crisscross it over the breast, ive only done this once before and the bacon ended up hard and very very crispy, then cos no=one eats the skin it was thrown out for the birdies,
Im wondering,if i remove the turkey breast skin before cooking and then crisscross the bacon over the breast would this be more edible?Or is the idea of the bacon simply to add moistness and flavour(ive bought smoked)and were not supposed to eat it anyway?.Thanks for any advice...merry christmas.:santa2:

We always eat it; any that isn;t eaten goes in the Boxing Day turkey pie
Yes, it's to add moistness to the legs and breast. Ours is crsipy, but not inedible. Are you using really thin cut bacon?:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
It is to add flavour and moistness. I think my mum used to take it off a bit before the end so the turkey could brown, we used to eat it as bacon sarnies about an hour before the big meal (yum!).0

Do you cover the turkey when cooking? Bacon is not too crispy that way“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I'm cooking the turkey and then transporting to my daughters for dinner. She texted me to remember no bacon on the turkey as grandsons new fiancee is Jewish , blimey I'm so glad she reminded me..... keep bacon wrapped sausages well away also...lol#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

We put bacon on, then take it off about 30 minutes before the bird comes out of the oven so it's not too brown and so the skin can crisp up....the bacon either gets eaten by the cook or put onto the serving platter with the carved meat.0

The dog gets the bacon as part of his Christmas treat, and the left over pigs in blankets0

We eat ours, welllll actually being completely honest, I pick most of it off at the various times the bird comes out of the oven to be checked! What's left goes out with the meat and if isn't eaten goes in the soup!Piglet

My kids fight over it, no matter how crispy it is. And it adds a lot of flavour to the juices for gravy. But mine doesn't come out charred. Maybe put a bit of foil over the top for the first 1/2 of the cooking period?Val.0
